What ballpark were the user numbers for Euro Mir in? Are we close to that?

Hi all,

Just wondering, what ballpark figure do we have for user numbers in Mir 2 around the spider patch era? Dragon and/or Pheonix?

This is certainly the biggest private server Ive played, and it is starting to feel like Euro Mir.

Cheers,
BF

When my friend had access to a GM character, we tried /who and it had just over 1000 players online, this was around 1-2 years before euro mir officially closed.

Phoenix server in later times had maybe 100 - 200 pple at peak times and normal days 50-80 logged on? And earlier on maybe like 300?
At one point Phoenix had like 50 pple banned in one blow, for D server it was maybe 100 or 150 pple banned? I still have that list someplace.

Kinneas should know some figures maybe?

Fraid not mate. Sorry to disappoint but even as Mods we got very little by way of communication from the staff. I don't recall them ever disclosing average/peak players per server :(

pfft, lies :p

I dont think Euro P has over 80 EVER in the last 2-3 years, i could pretty much name everyone that played that server, and i highly doubt it is over 80 people lol.

D Server probarly had 500-1000 though.

Phoenix always lacked in players... before a game close they should have merged servers to test the waters...

Who were you on Phoenix?

When I played which was just after spider on d server I'd say 600 by the time I left maybe 200 if that, seemed everywhere you went you ran in to the same people, so may have been a lot less, think TM and there cheats drove a lot of ppl away

True for Phoenix server in those later years, we were told that running an extra server did not add any significant extra expenses and anyway the merging together of P&D would require too much effort, was much easier just to let things be the way they were.

I always assumed that phoenix server was in the 1000s... However, I must admit that our safezones/caves appear to be a lot busier than I remember phoenix being.

maybe in the first year lol.

For the last 3-4 tho, i highly doubt it ever peaked over 200. which the average being 80-100, which the majority would of been afk in a sz.

So the answer actually is a resounding yes.

If it can keep its playerbase, this server really has the potential to be similar to the glory days of euro mir?

All ready is better for me, when i first start playing Phoenix i was too young to really understand/remember anything.

For me, this is the most populated serrver i've ever played, except for when i used to log on dragon to troll BW when P Was down.

I always used to kick myself for choosing Phoenix over dragon lol

This is why Game network had no sense... They entrusted random people like your friend with GM powers.

This server was a massive disappointment. This server had the interest of some real oldskool players and guilds and yet it did the classic thing where it had the potential numbers but it decided to keep it to a hardcore classic game.

Myth of Soma did the exact same, low rate server and within months its oldskool player base started to fade away...why? People like the idea of killing chickens hens zombies etc but for a short while only. We all left Mir for the same reasons, its boring and grindy. Modern MMOs are great but do lack an open world which Mir has.

I failed to understand why the exp grind was so hard? 100+ hours to reach 40 it seemed like and then the bosses only ever dropped Moral rings and crap stuff. This is a private server and me and my entire guild were all looking forward to hunting as a team doing decent bosses. Instead we cant because we are all in crap gear and low level. Low level hunting is pointless as it is bad for exp and bad for getting drops.

I told Rocklee I would not play this server because I knew the mindset of the owner would be lets make an oldskool mir server. I dont get that at all...how many mir 2 / 3 servers have closed? Surely that tells you people dont want the original game in its entirety.

Imagine if the following had happened.

1. WT actually dropped horns. Idiotic idea to make the horn rare. In 1.4 WT dropped a horn every time. Guilds make this game!
2. People could hit 40 ish within a decent 50hour ish speed. Thus allowing people to group up and tackle cool guild hunt bosses.
3. There was a decent amount of casual 40s with 2 weeks which meant we could start have SW wars regularly.
4. People actually wore good kit pre 40. Make 40+ stuff rare ish
5. Spells under 40 actually dropped. Make 40+ stuff rare ish
6. Bosses AI was the same as before.

I'm enjoying it, sat at level 31 at the minute and I only play evenings...

Apex were killing WT with a group of level 22's as early as possible, totaling around 56 WT's killed i think.
If you want the horn, it's there to be had. There are about 5-6 guilds in-game now?

It's like any new game, items are rare in the beginning... if you leave this server alone and come for a go in 6months level 26 weps will be worth 50k. It's expected, you cant expect every item under 40 to be dropping like gold neckies from cats... that's just silly. Items have to be worked for, and they are most definitely dropping at a decent rate throughout the game, we just arent see'ing them because most are not required levels to wear yet.

There are 4/5 Guilds ingame?

I don't think you appreciate that the server has been open a week.
4. People actually wore good kit pre 40. Make 40+ stuff rare ish
There are a number of level 30 weapons etc already ingame (see previous comment on time period server has been up).
5. Spells under 40 actually dropped. Make 40+ stuff rare ish
Again see above comment.
6. Bosses AI was the same as before.
We would we not improve a flawed aspect of the game? Modern MMO's have advanced AI's

I am not sure what the issue is here, but see my answers in red.

From what I know, which was only words from GM's/Mods etc (Seriously, did anybody actually know any staff? lol)

First few beta / years the numbers were in the 1000/2000 range. This is D-server I'm talking about mind you, and I never knew what the peak was. People kept leaving and leaving, think near the end it was something around 600.

Any who, usercount of 400-600 on this server so far is impressive to say the least for a private server.
