Depends on the server, but most I would say is connection....at least 256k+ of upload speed but you should have at least this....

2.4GHZ+
1 Gig of ram
256k+ upload speed

Depends on the upload Shadow. A 256k upload is good for around abouts 45 people comfortably, so take a guess from there. Remember the difference between upload and download ;)

Also your CPU speed is not very important, anything 633mhz+ should do (lots of servers have been ran on less without lag problems). The most limiting hardware factor with a server is the RAM capacity. Just make sure you place your spawns carefully, and don't use more maps than you need to and you should be fine.

Apart from that its the geographical location of your ISP, as this will effect people's ping rates (just ask a few people to ping you, see what the results are). Id say anything under 90ms is good there.

that would be fine, just make sure the 300k is upload, not download, and the video card dont matter =)

NTL's stated upload speed for the 300k cable service is 64kbit/sec. Comfortable for around 5-10 people I'd think.

...In otherwords Shadow - your machine is perfectly capable of hosting, however the number of players you can support is severly hindered by your connection.

Bio, you don't need such a powerful processor to run a mir2 server. If a Celeron 500 can do it without a hitch, I'm sure a 1.7 p4 can.
