sdo has proxy authority right
Wemade solely own the rights to Mir 2 now as per the results of the Wemade v Shanda lawsuit a few years back.

You can run a private Mir server anywhere, we’ve seen them inside China and Korea so that’s not out of question, I would imagine if running one inside of China you’d want to host the server outside of China. (Not because of copyright)

Jev doesn't understand Copyright law so don't listen to him...
How many Mir 2 Servers have been shut down to "copyright"

Since I don't understand Copyright law, could you calrify if we should all be worried about wemade sending all private servers owners DMCA's for the first time in what, 10 years?

Closer to 20 years

Also worth mentioning that any and all servers hosted in any region would not monetize enough to warrant their efforts in proceeding legal action.

Aka - Your server is merely a non entity blip on the Mir Radar.

Not sure about Revenge but no server in many years has made such a storm that wemade felt the need to throw out letters.

Regardless of copyright knowledge, wemade don't care about us enough :kekw:

Even Shanda still run their Mir 2/3 server after being sued by wemade and loosing all IP rights for Mir 2/3

You’re making it sound like it’s legal when it isn’t
You’re telling a Chinese person what he can or can’t do..

You can only poke the bear so much though.
Haven't we been poking for 20 years?

I never said it was legal, I mentioned the Shanda Lawsuit which is a prime example of a company that should really have some rights towards the game but lost it all.

I also said that Wemade own all the rights, so in who's right mind thinks that means it's legal?

Btw anyone who knows the Shanda v Wemade story would probably have been shocked if Shanda won the legal battle

I imagine what goes on here in the West is peanuts, not significant to what the official servers are making. Private server scene is like combing orchards for apples left behind after the owner got the main portion of them and his customers would not want those apples left behind anyway.

Private server scene is always behind, scavenging, while the development is already somewhere else. What goes on here in the West is not competing with their games run in the East, prosecution would be at best problematic, they are pragmatic about it. Even private servers in China, Korea get away with it, unless maybe being too visible, raking in too much money.

Suppose you take down place like this here or that Revenge server , you won't gain paying customers on your servers somewhere on the other side of the world or recover some significant money you could sue the server owner for.

I understand that someone new thinking of putting a server online would have jitters. Maybe research how pple run servers in China if that is where you are. Out here in the West, if you are in Egypt or even Romania, you run much less risk than if you were in UK, for example, if there is a risk to begin with.
