Turn the patrols into 30 minute routines you will soon get fit ;)

2 steps forward 1 step backwards is always a good start :P

Why so serious: lets face it at some point in our mir time we all went through a 'serious' period where social life was non existent.

Seriously what job do you have where you have time to play Mir?

p.s. zen2 what a legend!
I play at work...! One Ace I just mined or went farming ET's etc - Something easy in case I had to actually go do some work.

I'm gunna pop this up because its starting to grate on me a little the amount of people who turn Mir into some kind of sport.

I have no problem with this(its your time, spend it as you will) but am I the only one looking to play socially/casually?

Discuss!!!

Much Love
/Go.

its not about being made into a sort of sport, you always get cocks and you always get those that kill them! always gunna be rivalry on mir! its the main point of guilds :P

Pvp was balanced in 1.4 because mir was designed to run on a single core machine, guess what 90% of people had single core pc's which is why everyone was on a level playing field. Single core tweaked or not tweaked made fractions of a difference.

Only problems today is that using anything else then single core xp add at least 20ms some pc add up to 60ms to each run animation. These tests was done on an expensive machine dual boot set up xp and win 7.

So the whole tweaking debate is crap. Even with acpi xp single core you will only ever move at the correct frame rate, never before. So with that to say tweaks are cheating is just crap lol.

I didn't say tweaks are cheating, I said people cry about people tweaking, I fight with no tweaks against people with tweaks and still manage just fine but was just saying the community side to pvp got ruined a little cause of people tweaking which then brought forth the wingers, My favourite server was WeOwn 1.4, had some good fights on there! mass fights with everyone being the same speed, good times

Ill be playing casually, cant beat a fight though not that I rate my self at it haha. Gonna be taking day or two off on release to geek it so I dont fall behind guild memebers when I dont have time to play.

Its not just for speed people tweak its also to remove frame build up aka lag.

Im not saying you are calling it cheating just ive seen it on a few servers now where it gets classed as cheating. What gets me is people that have acpi xp are playing the game how it was ment to be 100ms per frame. If people want to use win 7 and have from 120ms to 160ms per animation let them. Its down to them if they want be laggy/ 2 stepping while playing a 10 + year old game. Dont punish the people who want to play lag free.

I think being closer to where the server is hosted has its advantages that being said their has been known programmes used to 'speed up your RPG' i would be lying if i said i hadn't tested one briefly in the past which worked and i was running around killing mobs 10x the speed as normal (on my screen) my dura was also going down 10x the rate so I'm not sure exactly what other people were seeing on their screens.

You cant beat the legendary mir lander :) fubu's favourite trick in the old 1.4 days.

Another old one is port 6k i believe i was one of the first UK mir players to have tested this, a nice Chinese guy i met on WeOwn who offered to level my char for me if i gave him my details, first i thought hang on this is stupid a noob just logged in and is asking me for my details to level me instantly haha!! i refused he explained he wanted a friend to hunt with ect, he then went on to explain he would be back in 10 minutes at level 220, after 10 minutes he returned and asif by magic he was 220 i passed him a high level item to put on which he did, so from level 7 to 220 in a matter of 10 minutes!! i thought he was a GM at first winding me up, he went ahead and took my details and i was told to log off for 10 minutes, when i logged back in i was the max level on the server! amazed by this i was very intrigued how to go about it (as anyone would) for a few days he would log onto my char and give me gifts, eventually he introduced me to how to go about it, Game masters were puzzled how i was levelling so fast and getting kit without no server logs of me doing so :/ this soon leaked and port 6k was blocked. (I may as well explain how this was achieved as no one has port 6k open anymore unless they use dial up or an ADSL modem with no firewall and i also doubt this even applies with SQL databases)

[Step1]
Download and make an offline mir server

[Step2]
Keep all the IP's as 127.0.0.1 (offline)

[Step3]
Change the ip address in the DBServer config to the servers IP address in which your trying to 'reach'

[Step4]
Start your server and your mir client as you would a normal offline server

[Step5]
Create an account with the exact same details as you used on the server your trying to reach

[Step6]
Create the same character name and login.

Once you log in you will basically be connecting to said servers database meaning whatever level you @level yourself to changes the level on the actual server, also the same goes with items and gold. (with items you would first have to create them in your offline servers database!)

I wouldn't advise anyone to attempt this though as you will be wasting your time because it will not work!! all servers are behind a firewall these days therefore port 6000 is not open to connect into and as said most/if not all servers run SQL for the database now.

I thought i would share this with you as some people will find this interesting. i hope this doesn't breach the forums rules i figured everyone else is talking about previous outdated tweaks so it shouldn't matter too much (maybe to a jobs worth)

Moral of the story: being a SZ noob does have its advantages!!

Whats your 'best bits' from back in the days?

:D

Mir's renowned for its pvp and probably always will be, and when fighting is one of the main reasons people play you're bound to get people who take it seriously and get competitive. That being said, it's always nice to come across a non-hostile group of players or guild who are just hunting for the sake of hunting and aren't gonna try anything the moment you come on screen.

For me, I'll be playing mainly for the pvp aspect as that's part of what makes mir unique for me compared to other games - the game isn't too complex, you know roughly where you stand when you pick a class, and fighting feels so 'connected'. Dropping someone who just tried to pk you and seeing the contents of their bag appear all over the floor is quite satisfying.

For an analagy, mir's a bit like driving a caterham vs a nissan gtr. Both are designed to do the same thing, just in the caterham you really feel like you're driving, and you can feel everything the car is telling you, rather than sort of floating round the track with all the fun taken out of it because it's almost too easy to drive.

I remember years back when you dropped from your body on euro, them days people used to cue for a boss, then when the Koreans come on the EU server cheating using double T-bolt hacks and run through and it changed the game aspect, and them days it was mine pking Gangs of people to try make profit. at Bw mines by stealing people gold ore and bio :D

I'm planning on playing solo for a while to allow myself to play casual and not get involved with wars and fighting for subs/bosses... some guilds I was in were really good (mostly in mir3 global and mir2 phoenix server) so I don't think I could play casual/solo for too long as I would feel like I'm missing the social side of things... It's just I'm so busy irl for the next month or two I doubt I could go on regular guild hunts so I'll just play when I can and have FUN!

but I do plan on spending a lot of time with this server if I enjoy playing it, so once I finally move house and sort all the irl things that get in the way I should be able to play a fair bit and build a fairly decent character... and hopefully then find a great guild with a friendly atmosphere who hunt together often. (I love going on guild hunts & helping each other with quests and such like)

so yeah I'll play "casual"... sort of :D
