Windows XP users: do NOT install Automatic Updates until you have backed up your whole C:

Microsoft is distributing the "SP2" upgrade to Windows XP users beginning Monday August 16th. Some SP2 testers have reported significant problems after installing it. As we are unsure how it will react with other software and systems used in your computer. it is imperative that you NOT install this upgrade on any Windows XP PC before backing up your drive(s).

To see if your PC runs Windows XP press the "Start" button and look on the left side of the panel. If that doesn't show you the version name, then right-click on the "My Computer" icon and choose "Properties".

If you are NOT running XP disregard this warning.

If you are running XP then press Start > Settings > Control Panel > Systems > Automatic Updates tab, and under the "Settings" section choose the option "Notify me before downloading any updates", then click OK.

If i were you I'd do exactly as this guy says, I have 'tried installing' this serveral times, and each time without fail it crashes on the loading screen, after rebooting. Its quite annoying as I used beta1 of this SP2 and it was very good :(

I'm sure they will fix the teething problems, I had a look at the beta and everything seemed fine it must be a reasonably new problem.

o.O has worked without a hitch on two of my systems, although the firewire connection speed on both of them has dropped signifficantly, not that I use it anymore.

automatic updates should never be on in the first place. Although problems have been reported, the majority of user's with SP2 are doing fine, this seems to be just some early stage problems like when people freaked about SP1
