Well, my version of windows wont exactly activate :P i dont have the pop saying windows must be activated as such, however, i cannot install windows media player 10 or 11, or the new IE because my windows my be validated. When i do attempt to validate windows, its not a valid cd key :P Is there any CD key which is free which i can use to alow me to have a "valid windows" product? so i can get windows media player 11, the new IE and do windows updates etc...

Well, its when i goto install things like the new IE, it says i must validate windows, and something about a valid cd key oO?

Basically.

He has a ilegal version of windows so he cant validate to get the new things microsoft offer.

I doubt he has the auto update what tells him his windows is pirated or he would of mentioned it.

for windows update... goto your control panel->automatic update->choose the second one so you can pick which ones you want.

Goto C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Windows Genuine Advantage\data folder

Open Data.dat with notepad and empty the whole file (0 byte).
Now save the file and set it as read only and

Restart pc in safe mode

Goto Your C:\Windows\System32 folder rename or remove these files.

wgalogon.dll
spmgs.dll
wgatray.exe

Goto C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\6c4788c9549d437e76e1773a7639582a

Delete this file.

Goto Control Panel -> Automatic Updates
Choose anything other than the top one will be fine.

If you get that update again, you can "HIDE" it.
