@urban

i have 3 pc's (well 2.5 but meh :P)for simplicity we will call them A B and C

A i have had the longest thats my server machine i bought B 8 months ago ish as i neeeded my own pc to use. they were networked by a 100MBPS network crossover from 1 pc to another.

just after xmas along came pc C much more powerful to replace B, but since B was worth nothing i kept it. A and C are networked using the same cable that i used for A-B but this time running at 1gbps. so possibly computer C has a screwed network card

@alpha

Cat5E Xover 10M its a bit old but apparently cat5e supports 1gbps

try forcing the cards into 10mbps half duplex, see if that works, then 10mbps Full Duplex, then 100 half, 100 full, gbit half, see which one makes it start dying.

Alternatively, get a switch or hub or so and plug both machines into that, then see which machine is dropping. (with a crossover if one drops both will report a missing cable, with a hub/switch onlky the broken one will)

The alternative to RMA because of a faulty network card, is to just get a PCI one and disable the on board one in the bios.
