Sat Nav for bikes.

Ok im gettin a large amount of money on Nov 9th (due to work related things), im buying my Aprilia Rs 125 out of that money, basicly im going to be travleing around the Uk Quite abit, is it worth getting a SatNav for my bike, if so how much would i be looking at roughly?

If you don't know your way around yea, best of getting a car for traveling around the uk tbh. Satnavs are fun :P

nah don't like cars :P rather just get a bigger bike than what i got atm :P then when im 19 hopefully have enough cash from work to get myself a GSXR 600 :P

Its easy where it goes on a aprilia rs 125 there's room where the Digital speedo is & im sure i could find a way 2 take it on & off without it getting stolen :P

The good thing with a sat nav is that it goes on the dashboard in a relative line of sight with the road (you can safely glance at it).

On a bike it would mean a constant looking away from the road...which in my opinion is not safe...and imagine if it came off at high speed?

You could probably take it off. People I know take them out of cars whenever their not in them, however as Beard said the safety is an issue. If you only look at it at traffic lights or something it might be okay but... It's rather risky. Plus you can't hear it on a bike, when it tells you directions so you'll need to look at it.

My girlfriend's Dad has some big BMW 1.2 litre bike that he uses to travel all over the world. He recently drove from Denbigh (where he lives) to Barcelona and then back to Paris at the end of the 1 week holiday. He has a sat nav on his bike that is removable and he uses headphones to hear what the sat nav says. It's safe to look at ;o On a car I've seen them like more towards the driver side wing mirror which means you'll be looking towards the pavement in front of you on your right ;o I think sat navs are dangerous on anything ;o

Apparently they're both the same, motorbike and car sat navs so yeah ;o

Mate Sat-Navs are quality, if you're travelling on roads/motorways that you don't know then I recommend one, theyre worth it. On a bike, could be dangerous I guess but not impossible, I don't know if theres a Sat-Nav with a headphone output because then you can listen to the directions without having to glance down as often...

Saying this, my Sat-Nav is only a cheap £99 one, and it works but its not that great...if you get one I recommend getting a Tom-tom, they have better signal, better map views, better speed-camera notifications and give more reliable instructions/routes.
