Today in my boredom at the lack of workload at work ...
Ive been thinking ...

What about a Mir with a strict easily attained 1-week level cap, based entirely on item hunting to increase strength.

Anyone who has played a game like Guildwars for example will understand.
The focus being entirely on group vs group PvP. And large groups vs bosses.

The problem i've always found with Mir is that not only do you have to update content because players of a specific level becoming bored with repetitive tasks. But also that the higher levels require absolutely new content aswell as they end up becoming the strength that they can solo mostly everything.

With a system like this though there seems to be no reward for consistant play ...

what do you think???

Am also welcoming any ideas in terms of benefits of play, beside getting new items? lol

Elmo said he was thinking of doing the same thing before he started with Aeolian, but decided to scrap the idea for whatever reason.

Personally I think its a good idea. I like the idea of getting to a certain level the concentrating on gathering equipment & skills.

When it comes to introducing new hunting areas, it would probably be an idea to have quests to complete before you can access each one, just to slow things a little and put a gap between people.

Good idea, but one of the big reasons alot of people play Mir is because of how it is.

People like just burning through levels and soloing bosses, its one of the few games which is pretty much based around just leveling with no specific cap as such.

Rather than starting it at all, i'd ask around and do a poll to see how many would play full time.

I would, since tbh i'm getting quite bored of the leveling lol.

But just remember, making a server like that would take a lot of scripting, especially if your aiming it towards how Guild Wars do it.

The cap would have to be higher than 20 as well, since this is Mir lol, and the leveling would have to be done through quests.

What i would do is make 50 quests all onto 1 NPC (Since we can't have the floating "!" to tell players theres a quest, it's just easier for them to find), and have the reward level them once per quest. Then have every 10th quest be a group quest, so they wouldn't be able to progress any further without being social :P

Then of course, have the usual dugeon teleporter and stuff, although unlike Guild Wars, i would level cap the items, otherwise what you planned for the quests (Especially the group 1s) would go down the drain, cause no doubt people will eventually have Lv.1's with the highest weapon or something lol

Contact the Unleashed team and ask them to include more quest functions in their files ;-)

They'd be able to implement some way of showing a npc to have a quest i presume.

thing is, some ppl prefer to just sit and level.. rather than go fight, fight boss's.

some play the game for fightin / boss huntin, ne thing fun/challengin..

then otehrs just play it for chillin... to sit in sz talkin / levelin and chillin out

ive tried to get a balance between the 2 by makin boss's high EXP and drop EXP pills that give decent %.

I think people are moving away from mir nowadays because of the lack of creativity which online servers are showing. People think that basic euro mir clones or sticking to the euro mir system and incorporating new things is enough to gain a great userbase - which it is, for the first few weeks. But not because your servers amazingly good, but because its one of a handful that are now being brought online, because lets face it when people get bored on one server they move to another - often the reason for this is being unable to reach or keep up with certain other players.

I like the idea of levels not being at the focus of the game. Lets face it people with oodles of free time can achieve super levels within a matter of weeks even days on some of the most recent servers.
A game that requires you to work at other things such as your strength and skills both solo and in a group would be a refreshing change. Maybe something thats more mentally challenging also... something that moves away from the trap and kill methods most of the mir boss mobs are reduced to.

New places to explore is often whats missing from new servers. Okay people like the familiar places of a mir server, but after 7 years and countless servers all using the same maps there comes a point when its just not exciting anymore.

Quests. Simple ones. Hard ones. Hundreds of them.
I like the WOW questing system to achieve the majority of your experience, it allows you to set your sights on achieveing a small task - but always takes you some way towards the much greater task of leveling up.

Discovery was a great part of mir in the past, discovering brand new areas, items and hidden secrets that very few know about. Kind of like that npc in ssg that used to sell lvl40 armours. Or that hidden shop that allowed you to purchase benes.

If your thinking ever develops into something more, i'd quite happily lend some assitance if you need - I don't have the patience or time to create or run my own server again. I would however partake in creating something fresh and new. With no expections of anything for myself. Just a decent server to be able to play if i wanted.

We are implementing a quest system With floating "!" and "?" above merchants heads similar to the korean system but only at a later date right now our main proirity is getting to the alpha stage.

As a follow up to Xander's post, what npc functions were you wanting to see... I have asked in the past but no-one has ever come up with any decent suggestions...

Worthing is depressing.
Basically shrink down the leveling factor of mir, and increase the quests etc? So make refining, and mining more nessecary? Becuase they are left out loads, and people just town hang...

You could allow people to craft weapons instead of buying them eg
WarMageStaff = 1 Shaft bone, red thread, and magic gem
IronSword = 10 iron ores, 1 sword handle, 1 sword mould.

Or for refining, i was thinking, a cool fun refining system is Rohans, which i understand works like this:

Weapon A + Weapon B = Special Weapon A
Weapon C + Weapon D = Special Weapon B
Special Weapon A + Special Weapon B = Unique Weapon C

Then also when doing this you can add objects into the refine to add stats (or so i think, only been on rohan for a short while as pc dont like it).

So it adds some grinding back in because you gotta get these weapons.. and objects to add in, but then you could make it to get objects A, you need to have done quest 45... where the npc will allow you to tele into a cave where this object drops.

Basically pikey alot of ideas from rohan.... there are some cool features which would be amazing added into mir, and i think the refining system would be food for here, as people can just kinda do quests... by refining items up.. .you just need to collect n upgrade instead of scrounge gold and buy everything.

please explain your first point
basically a npc command that works under #ACT that would take off the users kit, and put it in their storage if there was room

also could make it to take off certain items / position slots

eg.

#IF
storagespace 15
#ACT
STOREKIT ALL
#ELSESAY
you dont have enuff store room!
or

#IF
storagespace 1
#ACT
storeslot 1 (<--1 for brace, 2 for ring etc etc...)
#ELSESAY
you dont have enuff store room!

does that make sense?
also i guess.. a #IF command to check if u have any accessorys/weap etc in ur bag

wanted this for a PvP idea

ohhhhhh

just thought of another 1

-NPC command again to change your attack mode... and also to stop u changin your attack mode until a NPC changes it bk
so like
#ACT
setattackmode attackall
canchangemode 0/1 yes/no

another thing iwas thinkin, was to have like 2 server guilds.... can call them wotever, but say server guild 1, and server guild2

then have a new attack mode for server guild attack

u could add another interface button for this new guild... altho u could always just do it NPC based

most my ideas are for fun/fightin/pvp ideas tho

A new pvp system wouldn't go a miss.
Maybe being able to request a pvp with another person, if they accept you are both teleported to a pvp arena and left to fight it out.

Maybe you could work an Honor point system into this.
You gain honor from winning a pvp. You loose it from pks.
Honor points could be used for a variety of things.
(I know this can be done already, but its nice to have new windows/commands which shows this off alot better ingame.)

Mob ideas, maybe you could have it so certain mobs will only attack certain classes. Also that certain classes can get different amounts of experience from the same mob - would solve the 'Wizards level faster than me'.

Just a few ideas which i would find useful to make a better server. :agree:

yer thats the idea ... if ucould code something like the pop up thing would be gr8

honor thing would be good also, however ud have to make it so u had to be within 1-2 levels of the person, and only level 40+ ro w/e can take part.. u could set a flag/command via a npc, then u cna make it w/e level for ur server

could make boss's that are 'weak' against certain weapons/class's as u say.... eg if a warrior attacked, u will do 100 damage
if a wizard attack ud only do 1 damage

i personally feel mirs best aspect is fightin/boss killin, so id build ideas around that

Saying that it would probably be better to bring Elements into the game, used properly they could make a big impact on the game.

I mean you don't really notice it on Mir 3 but if you made them have a bigger impact on the game it could turn out pretty good.
