X-Mir Bank system

The Idea
When moving from server to server, for whatever reason, how beneficial would it be if you could take your gold with you? To me, personally, the thought of never having to start a server on 0 gold again is actually rather appealing.

How does it work?

The bank itself is made up of a few rather complex systems, but it is nothing I can’t handle. I will go through these systems, and break them down as much as I can for you, the server owner or customer to give a full understanding of what is going on.

An exchange rate will be created between servers – A few things will be taken into consideration by our system before a server is issued a specific rate.
  • The back bone of the rate is an advanced calculation concerning the amount of characters created, and how much gold they hold (All anomalies have been accounted for).
  • We look at the amount of active users on the server.
  • We will then look for any events which have occurred that will affect the reputation of that server.
  • Finally we will look at the amount of gold imported and exported from the server.

With the exchange rate now in place, we can now begin to transfer money from one server to another. Now different GMs will prefer everything to work in different ways, to compensate for this, I will offer as many combinations as possible to allow GMs to get involved or as the case may be, not get involved at all.

Note: To create an accurate and stable exchange rate, we will not implement a banking system to a server which is under 1 Month old, and we shall not create banks in servers that have user counts under 20 people.

Two ways to transfer money

1) Out of game money exchange
When a user enters our website, he/she will have to make an account, upon completion of this account, the user will be given a list of servers that are connected to the Xmir Bank. The user chooses a server, enters their login details, and poof, their 3 characters will appear with cash contents. They must do this between 2 servers before they can transfer any money. To transfer money, they would enter the server where the character has money, click on it, and choose the amount of money to transfer, choose the server to take it to and then their character on that server. So after 4 or 5 clicks of a button, you can have your gold waiting for you.

2) In Game money exchange
For GMs that do not want to give us login details (which we fully respect), the user must still make his/her account, but when they click on their server it will say “In game transactions only”. This means the user must login to their game and speak to our bank character active on each server. They must tell us how much they want to give, who to give to, and where, they must also quote their password to us. Once all is confirmed (and our system’s updated), the money can be accepted into our bank character.

Once on the other side, the character name, quoted from the previous server must speak to our bank character, quote the password and the withdrawal amount, now what happens next is up to the server owners.

Before I continue, allow me to tell you more about the bank character, these will be on every server which has been assigned an exchange rate to act as an information help desk at the very least, but also offering an investment scheme. You can deposit money into these characters which is then put in your ‘current account,’ you can withdraw this at any time and there is a 2% interest rate that gets paid into your account every month. You can withdraw your earnings at any point like an ATM without any charge. There will also be a high savers account at 3% per month; however you cannot withdraw this money for 3 months.

A) GM Involvement
If the owner chooses to be involved, a request is sent to the GM for X amount of money. The GM gives this to the Banker (for verification) and the banker then transfers that money to the character. Our systems are then updated and the transfer is now complete.

B) GM Uninvolved
On busy servers, GMs will not have time to do the above so we of course I have compensated for this as well. As stated above, characters will be able invest into our characters. This invested money, and money handed over due to people leaving to play other servers can be used to pay people joining the server that want their money from their previous server.

Note: The bank system will need testing to see if I can make it become a self profiting bank; if not then GMs will give money to cover our losses (which is a lot easier than doing the GM involvement scheme).

To finish, I have also noticed that there is a possibility of ID theft to the bank as people may attempt to access other peoples account details. This can be made impossible as our character will be wearing an item called XmirBank that will have 0 stats and will not be in any drop files.

If you are worried about a GM that could create a lot of money on a fake account, then send this money to other servers trying to ‘ruin’ their economy, please understand that this is impossible. The way our system works is that it will know if something like this is happening, and will cause the exchange rate of their own server to decline and the exchange rate on their enemies’ server to increase and thus advertising their enemy’s server for them. Just for clarity, even if money enters a server unnaturally, the economy stays the same as all items will still cost the same. A GM will not want to play an enemy’s server, so the money doesn’t actually go anywhere and therefore an issue our system still compensates for, but is not actually an issue when looking at the big picture.

This is something myself and a few loyal and IRL friends have been thinking about. We have thought about it enough to be willing to make it possible if the community requests it, and we have a full understanding if you would rather step away from the idea and keep to a working system. All constructive criticism is welcome and please feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks,

X-Mir

You can see so many holes and yet you dont name any for them to be debated? A lot of thought has gone into all the loop holes we can think of, but if you can see one we have missed, we would love to know.

Al3xz: Thanks for your input, I fully respect that some people would prefer to start from scratch, but personally I feel that the next time I have to RUN to BW on a new server, I may just quit the game lol. Also note that we like to think of this as taking your hard work with you, when you are saving hard for specific items, cash on a character from a server you may no longer play can help you obtain your desired item for example. You have still invested 100s of hours in game time on other servers, so why cant we at least take some of our hard work with us?

how about gm gives their friend tons of gold, only to go on another server a have it all there?

a flaw in a server update allowing people to get loads of gold?

an event which has millions of items dropped?

there is no possible way you can compensate for the exchange rate. a server maybe low rate, but tons of gold is dropped. its impossible to calculate how much gold is worth from one server to the other. most server owners couldnt tell you that, never mind have you calculate it for them.

id love to make a server, only to find another server had one huge event which messed up leaving everyone rich, then coming to my server with it all. not.

besides, why shouldnt we trust our gold with someone who has 4 posts on this forum, and we have no idea who he is.

do you see WoW having a system to transfer the money to EvE, just so they can take their 'hard work' with them?

this is simply a quick money idea you had in the attempt to get a head start on servers.

I don't think You should be criticising someone by their post count. its completely irrelevant so is Join date before that gets mentioned.

The Idea in it self would be good for official servers ( Phoenix - Dragon) where they are the same, but for private servers I think it would impossible to accurately balance.

Not to mention I would not accept creating gold on my server to give to someone because they played another server.

If the gold was obtained legitimately on my server, then that would be fine with me, its the users choice not mine what they would do with their cash/items.

Not an idea I agree with at all... for all the reasons stated above and probably more. Having played one server shouldn't benefit you on another server, at least in terms of gold, items, experience etc.

While you're at it, why not transfer exp? Sort out an exchange rate for that! I made level 200 on 'x' server which had silly stats, that calculates to level 60 on 'y' server which is med rate and low stats. That's great but it disregards the fact it was much easier to level on 'x' server. The principle is no different with gold.

of course its relevant. its doesn't matter when you're making server files, but when you expect people to entrust you with their 'valued time and money' why would anyone trust a random-er off the streets?

QFT.

If someone's using a new account, even if they've had previous ones, you must question why. Generally either because they've been banned or because they have something to hide! Not that everyone gets banned for legitimate reasons, *cough* me.

So what your saying is, if someone with a million posts asked for the account details for this purpose they would be be given the all clear?

I'll tell you, the answer would be No, its nothing to do with the post count its to do with the fact no one will compromise their security.

post count is usually a good indication of how long you've been here, and how much your contribute. aswell as your reputation for others knowing you.

id much rather trust someone whos been here 3 years, and is known by a lot of people, than a random person who no one knows and has just registered.

if he says he had over 100 hours of mir insite, why has he only just joined the only private mir forum. if hes come straight from official, he would have no knowledge of private servers, and if hes only played private servers but never registered, why hasnt he decided to contribute.

All im saying is its a bit fishy for someone to have almost no posts, and suddenly come up with an idea which requires everyone to part with their account details.

Quoted for truth.

Good try on the idea but it would just cause more issues than its worth.

Thanks for your input guys. The whole reason why this is here is because I wanted to know what you guys thought of it. The security risk is fully respected, but is only an option, the other 2 do not require your ingame username and password. Please also remember that every time you have joined one of those servers which have only lasted a few weeks because they are euro rips all have your account details for that server, and unless you fill out the 'create a new account' form differently every time, that GM can use that information to impersonate you.

A lot of you seem to be mentioning the inaccuracy of this exchange rate, I know it may be hard to believe, but we have a working formulae which will give outstandingly accurate results.

As to who I am, I have spent longer than I can remember playing Mir and I have followed and 'contributed' to lomcn for many years. As you can see this account has been registered since 2008. The reason why I have only posted on this account is because I wanted a truly unbiased and respected opinion. However, it seems I have had quite the opposite response.

It seems that you are doubting the abilities of the system, and hopefully not so much of the system itself. If it helps, I did not create the formulae, 2 uni students who are irl friends of mine that are studying bsc in business and math.

Hopefully this helps with the 'trust' issues. So with this aside, do you still think this is feasible?

Worthing is depressing.
No trust issues at all really....

its just a **** idea, end of really. I bet your one of these kids who plays servers like Salvation... gets 100000billion and thinks to himself

"hmm.. i know, ill try trade my 100000billion gold from salvation to oldskool, somebody must be willing to join this heap of junk

20 minutes later:
"oh **** nobody plays Salvation, who will trade??"

10 minutes later:
"I KNOW!! LETS MAKE A CURRENCY EXCHANGE PROGRAM SERVERS CAN USE!!! SO I CAN MAKE A FALSE ECONOMY INGAME"

No. Just no.

Not to mention the issues it would cause gold rates on server.. would mean rich people on other servers stay rich on all servers.. thus giving it another killing factor, i believe this meeting is adjourned

where players might find this a nice Idea, it is really down the the server owners...

What benefit/Gain would a server owner get from using this service.

It would either flood their server of gold or/and lose their player count.

Actually speaking sense for once Smavid? Surely not.
