Not so much complicated for me, but more effort and time-consuming. And aslong as it's simple for you (players). Just how it should be really.

And, no your exp is not reset. If you go in with 50% exp and choose the gold mode, you will come out with 50% exp.

If you chose the experience mode and your kills outwight your deaths in number, you'll come out with more exp. If your number of deaths outweight your number of kills, you lose experience. This all depends on your level too.

It wouldn't be fair for a level 10 to lose 10%, and then have a level 120 lose 10% exp. So I've made sure things are balanced and their is no biast judgement.

Re: [2.3] Aeolian Server - Explained In Detail

Updates first post with Home Estate Final.
When I have time, I'll give the story behind Home Estate, where it leads to, what's happened. B asically, the concept is that it's a tutorial map, but you can return later on, as it may have quests when you've completed another quest/defeated a monster/etc.

So yeah, will update later.

Re: [2.3] Aeolian Server - Explained In Detail

Okay, so here's the concept behind Home Estate (Not yet named, currently called Home).

When you login, a dialogue box appears, instructing you to find 'Father' (your father). When you find father, he will explain to you the dillemas of the land, giving you a brief storyline to Aeolian, giving you a server-primary objective. He then proposes a dilema he has himself, and that there are wild monsters, south-east of Home. All around Father's Home and your Home (Near the crops) there are NPCs posing as family and friends. There are also NPCs such as MerchantGeorge who give a series of quests, though they can't be done continuously, there are other things in Aeolian that effect what and when things need to be done.

Also as I mentioned above, 'Father' will also explain how you've been changed to a Warrior and doens't think you'r ready to harness spiritual power as of yet. Though this changes as soon as you complete the primary quest and teleport.

On completing Home's primary quest by ridding of the monsters on the south/south-east coast, you then return to 'Father' (or explore more, talk to other NPCs, complete quests) and he will then finish the storyline of how your older brothers and sisters are training to be soldiers, practicing the ways of the warrior/taoist/wizzard, and then proceeds to say that you were destined to fight alongside with your brothers and sisters.

It seems pretty "Do this quest. Do that quest. Would you like to teleport?" by how I've explained it, but the dialogue is something I've paid close attention too, a lot of servers wil just use simple things such as "Go to MerchantGeorge, collect x" and on returning to him "Thankyou. Would you now like to teleport to Castle Bichon?" which I find extremely repetitive, boring and un-imaginative.

If I have time tomorrow, I'll make a 10 minute video demonstrating to you how the first hour may look.
You are able to teleport back whenever you want. Also, NPCs will be automatically updated for you, depending on your server progress (this has already been completed).

Re: [2.3] Aeolian Server - Explained In Detail

No not at all, sorry if I come across saying that; What I'm saying is there will be a PK/PvP specific 'plane' which should prove effective as instead of watching a high level/high stat kill someone's who's only just logged on, you'll see (in the pvp province)a high level/high stat PK a high level/high stat and seeing them get rewarded experience/gold.
The PvP Province, I assure you will be (at the moment) the only place where you are de-leveled and have your stats changed, as it is only temporary.

Hope that clears things up for you :)

Wouldn't people abuse that, ie. make 2 chars and take all the other chars exp.

That's exactly what I thought, which is something I'll be working the kinks out off later on.

With that, I think it'd have to be manually proccessed; add their names to a list everytime they teleport there, check it weekly, run the names through the DB to check IPs, check if there's an IP with 2 characters who've logged in, then check the logs.

Long-winded eh, but shouldn't be too time-consuming. + if someone does it once, they'll do it again and eventually get caught = perm ban.

I have a server server in my attic along with a 1GB laptop.
The server files will be hosted from the server and the DB will be hosted from the laptop, minimizing lag.

DL: 12.2MB
UL: 1.5MB

Server specs:
Quad Core Intel Xeon x3353
2.66Ghz
2x6mb Cache
2GB RAM
Unused

Laptop specs (not that important, but here they are anyway):
Intel Core 2 Duo
1GB RAM
2.4Ghz
Windows XP
Unused

So, yeah, I think with both of these technologies combined they server can handle a decent load and able to be online 24/7.

With the laptop, I also have a small (but pretty powerful) fan clipped on the back. Usually the problems with lag is the processor over-heating, so just to make sure nothing goes wrong I've had a fan on the back of it for about 3 weeks, and has been on for roughly a month and half now and only been turned off for no more than 6 hours (this was because I removed Vista, installed XP).

So yeah, everything that end is pretty much done :)

Thanks for asking :)

Not really my friend...

Like I've said earlier, the ability to gain exp is quite varied compared to other servers. You complete quests/missions, you go to the PvP province and obviously PvE.

I always felt confined and quite often bored when it was 3am, nothing to do, can't sleep and yet all I could do on Mir to level was double click every few seconds.

And with the quests, it actually takes some sussing out, exploration, etc. NPCs won't give you direct commands, nor some will not give you directions, it's just a matter of exploring. Just how an ORPG should be, instead of the non-original boring going to an NPC, being given directions, teleport there, teleport back, recieving millions of gold and a semi-rare item. It just renders your gaming experience pointless after a while, and makes the game feel less rewarding when you do actually complete a quest, find a semi-rare, acquire a large amount of gold.

Thanks for commenting :)

Ayye will do, when my domain purchase has been verified and everything's okay, i'll setup a lightbox gallery with a few samplers on there. Maps, kits, NPCs, you get it ;)

But sadly, not many will be shown, as once again, I'd like to keep things for player's suprise.

It was meant to be used for some indie games, to be tested on, and the sale of them pretty much paid for the server itself.

And noo, I just don't like wearing things out when it's not being used. +, it was originaly a Centrino, but friend bought a new PC with quadcore and sold me his for cheap. So, couldn't really refuse.
