A new server...questions.

Before anyone starts, I'm not new to this, I've made a lot of servers and I have run a lot of servers. I'm thinking of making a live server, not a free one and not one that costs the world. Read below:

People who like mir2 are probably looking for a new server they can enjoy their experience on. I'm looking to open a server on a completely dedicated machine in a data centre that will allow everyone to connect with no lag, not just some home machine.

Instead of offering it for free, I would be charging...the price I have in my mind varies from 3-5 pounds a month. In return I would employ GMs to keep up with events and issues - employed meaning paid.

What do you all think of the idea? Would paying put you off completely or would it give you that security that the server would stay online which is what I'm aiming for? I don't expect everyone to rush into to it so investment for me is compulsary, I'm willing to pay for everything for a year to see how it all advances.

Majority of servers already have dedicated hosts and take donations for items (fail).

This isn't anything new, and at the end of the day you aren't going to cater for everyones tastes anymore as no one likes the same things.

Allowing people to buy items counts as money being made on their behalf.

Isn't Lapta charging like £5 p/m for his crappy euro rip?

no i believe hes just asking for 'donations' then giving ppl items in return.

wemade dont do anything because we're small fish, and dont effect their business. if you started charging id expect they come down on you alot harder.

besides, lomcn doesnt allow it.

Well that's what he was talking about on euromir forums couple of weeks ago, may have changed his mind but either way I think it flopped anyway.

LOMCN doesn't allow what? LOMCN doesn't allow donations for items either but there's servers being moved to Approved that do it lol.

I thought euro shut down because of private's taking there players and there was no point in them running without players?

Who would pay when you can get exactly the same for free? Maybe theres the risk of the server not lasting long but who cares if your not paying to play it?

Everyone these days with thier money making scemes.

You will not get many players, lets do a comparason. Free server to a P2P server, we know whats going to win. However the security does sound good, on a other note some servers are secure without donations.

LOMCN dont allow p2p servers, so pointless idea unless ur gonna advertise somewhere else

and also, your sayin a dedi ... so thats around £150 a month if ur sayin a rly good 1

at £3 a month, ud need at least 50 active users, then ud need more than that to pay the "GMs"... then wot do you get out of it?

i couldnt see a p2p server ever takin off tbh lol
