So a number of people have been quizzing me (mainly td) about how we intend/envision an Archer to work and have been asking a number of questions about how we currently expect him to work.
What do we expect Archer to be?
It has been hard implementing a character with next to no official information about (Shanda are still in the middle of implementing Archer) and we have used our imagination with some of the ideas/skills.
What has also been made difficult is implementing another ranged class that does not dominate mass leveling (wizard) or aid's bosses in such a way that a Taoist is made redundant.
Our design is that the Archer will be more of a single dps/smallish AOE class, but deals a far greater single dps than that of a wizard/taoist, providing the user with easy and fast single hit kills, but also providing the ability to deal a moderate amount of mass damage also.
In addition Archers do have the ability to shot over walls/objects, this is design to reduce their damage slightly so not to make wizards redundant in boss hunts.
How is the plan being Achieved?
There is and will be a number of contributing factors that will make up an Archer's strength. The Archer uses DC for power and this is available in higher quantity's than that of MC and/or SC items.
Critical in a new item stat that has been introduced which determines the amount of damage a critical hit can cause (I won't give figures as that is part of the fun! Just know that more Crit = more damage).
Accuracy will play a big part in the Archery role, if you are to achieve that head shot (critical) then you should be sure to stock up on Acc (more ACC = better chance of hitting a Crit).
Finally different types of Arrow heads will be craft-able and each will provide some additional stats DC/Crit.
What Skills are available and what are they designed to do?
Names are subject to change...
Basic Archery:
This is the Archer's first skill and does what it says on the Tin... If you have a Bow and some Arrows equipped, then point and aim.
PerfectAim:
You will notice that your basic archery to begin with is a little off and you miss often... Perfect Aim increases your archery precision ensuring that you do not miss.
SpiritBolt:
A magical arrow infused with the souls of the elders; inflicts additional damage to the undead.
HighShot:
Provides the ability to shot over objects/walls, however, landing a hit is not an easy task, with practice you will become a better shot (higher the level, the less misses).
PowerBolt:
An arrow released with such force that it causes its target to stumble backwards.
ExplosiveTraps:
Invisible to all except their planter, traps can provide a number of different sneaky attacks.
IceBolt:
A magical arrow that has been dipped in the blood of ice demons (can cause slow or freeze effect).
AttunedMind:
Enables a Archer to concentrate on his mana pool and regain a small amount over time.
RapidFire:
Temporarily increases the rate of which the Archer is able to fire and reload his bow.
Decoy:
Allows the Archer to create a living statue of himself, which is then available to swap positions and distract monsters around it.
I will explain this one in a bit more detail as it was hard wording it...
Basically you use Decoy, it will spawn a clone that does not move and does not attack, if you were to use Decoy again you would immediate swap positions with the decoy and the decoy would let off a roar (or sorts) which would take focus of the surrounding mobs.
If you run to far away from your decoy, it will die.
If you decoy runs out of health, it will die.
Range of roar and health pool increase with skill level.
FireBolt:
A magical arrow scorched by the flames of evil, additional damage done to the living.
EagleEye:
Temporarily increases the accuracy of the caster, providing a larger chance of a head shot (critical).
ArrowBarrage:
Spawns two shadows selves either side of the caster for a triple full scale attack, reasonable cool down.
CresentMoon:
A powerful arrow unleashed with such power, accuracy and fury that it penetrates anything that stands in its path. (A Line of attack e.g. lightning).
StaticBolt:
A magical arrow built by the great god of Olympus, Zeus. The initial hit unleashes a static of hits against nearby monsters. Increased level provides a large range of additional hits.
This is what we have so far, I have most likely forgotten something very important, but feel free to ask any questions and one of the team will attempt to answer them.
