except for the obvious and most complicated language C+.

i was wondering what a good Game programming language is.

I already know a bit on Blitz basic and yes i do like it , but there are some faults.
Is Action script any good to learn (flash programming) as a lot of web based games ( what i wish to do at the moment ) are made in flash.

As you may of guessed i want to be a games programmer when im older :) .

C++ is industry, no way around it im afraid.

Very true, most businesses use this, obviously creating a game from
scratch in any language is difficult, but even more so in C++.
Delphi is simpler, since it has a good set of DirectX objects, .Net
is also good, but i've never seen a decent retail game in .Net.

This XNA, never seen it before, seems interesting though..

I did work experience for a playstation company - everything they write is in C++ and the best advice they gave me was to learn it.

XNA seems simple enough along with C# also lets you write for XBox 360 which is pretty cool not looked into it much but looks pretty good.

C++ , ok..... my dad knows that and he has tons of leg thick books on C++ downstairs.

i might start C++ even if it is hard.

My dream honestly is to become a games programmer...

And i wanna make sure i get it.

I know i have the potential for it although its not going to be easy , especially at 14.

And Xander my dad is learning that XNA stuff for our xbox 360 hehe.

I dunno if its true but u guys seem to know what your talking about , but my dad seems to think once you have learned
one language its not so hard to learn another.

Its true, once you get your head around how programming works (i.e. by learning a language) you can usually pickup another easier than it was to learn you first.

By all means try and learn c++ on your own but its difficult if it your first language and you will need a lot of support.

Im doing Computer Games Development in uni (Programming basically) and its tough, we do a C++ module (Called Program Design and Implementation) and then we do a Games concepts module that involve implementing what we learnt in PDI into a gaming context. We also have 4 other bollocks modules.

And im finding it TOUGH.

Good luck

we do XNA for our programming course, one of the only uni's (if not THE only) to put it into their studies this early. i likes it.

If your only 14 I would suggest starting on something easier than C+, as you said once you know one you will pick up the others easily anyway.

Maybe look at learning VB or maybe even python then move on to C+.

It's true VB is awful once you know other languages, but it's easy and quick to learn. It's what most A-Level programming courses use anyway(or so I am told).

And whats the deal with Delphi these days? I've never really looked at it but it seems to be getting more and more popular....

It began as a very poorly known environment. It did a number of campaigns eg giving older versions away for free - to try and boost its popularity.
The fact of the matter is that the development system is very flexible and is developed in its own language thus making it truly limitless. It is gradually increasing in popularity and is being recognised as a serious environment in which to develop.

C++, but that's been said already.

If you've never programmed before you'd find it very difficult to go straight into C. Start on something simple, basic, like Delphi or VB.
Then start on the absolute basic C++, with the console.
Then move onto visual stuff, .NET, whatever.
