what would u guys say its better for a mir 3 srv?
intel xeon with L2 cache 6MB or an intel core 2 quad with L2 cache 12MB?
and any1 knows/thinks that a ride(from 2 HDD SATA) does anything good to the srv?or works the same like a normal HDD?

i posted about it too time ago

the crueldragon use only a core so you wont need more cores to run a server

go with the higher RAM then go for the higher MHz

RAM is more important

Duno really as im kinda restricted by the mother bord , didnt found mother bords that suports all the xeon's , but its eighter the xeon e5405(witch has 12 mb) , or e5205/e3110(both 6 mb)

@alecs cant say i really saw any cpu's that arent dual core anymore :P

tbh using a dual core can still benefit a server as cd.exe can be dedicated to one core while sql etc can be dedicated to another. as i understood it the intel xeon processor is a server processor for multi processor servers?? correct me if i'm wrong but that's how intel market it anyway. As kaori said go for the larger L2 cache as this is the self sufficient memory the processor writes too before using ram, which is a lot faster

If your serious about going raid and quad for a server, you might as well buy a home sever to do this job for you.

Using Raid is good, but only if your using more than 2 SATA drives. As on a normal raid 1/0 you need a third sata for mirror incase any of the others go.

If you have cash
Get a dual xeon board (super micro, asus have a few that supports socket 771)
Get an e5405. or a pair.
Get more RAM like 8G.
HD, you can do some RAID 0/1/5. Raid 5 need 3 drives. RAID0 or RAID1 uses 2 drives.
Research on solid state drives as well (they are great for speed / low heat).
