BOOTMGR is missing

Ok I reformatted my desktop this morning and now when i try to turn my pc back on im getting "BOOTMGR is missing, Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart" so i did a little research on how to fix this and alls im getting is you need windows 7 disc.. so i tried to ring dell but there closed on sundays!

So does anyone know if its possible to fix without a windows 7 disc?

you formatted your hard drive, and wonder why its asking you to put a windows disk in.

you've formatted your hard drive, and put windows back on it without a windows disc? i find that hard to believe. unfortunately if you have actually formatted your hard drive the only way to get windows back is via either a disc, a recovery partition (which you may have also formatted) or a factory restore disc (alternative windows disc)

if you have none of these im afraid you're abit screwed, and dell won't help you without a charge.

Exwizz you must of installed Windows from either a Disc or USB, you can't do it any other way when you format the system. If Bootmgr is missing you'll need a Windows 7 disc to get into recovery mode and either run the command in cmd prompt to fix it or let the recovery program find the problem and fix it.

-edit- Or via the Network I guess but doesn't matter either way you need to have the Windows install files.

formatting the hard drive is classed as a software fault, which isn't covered under a manufacturer warranty. dell will likely charge you around £20 to send out a factory restore disk.

if you haven't actually formatted (god knows why you would) and your bootmgr is just corrupt then you could also borrow a friends windows disk and recover that way.

why did you decide to format your computer in the first place?

My pc is 4 months old and the disk drive doesn't even work... Well on my laptop I can just reset to factory settings and I thought I could do the same with my pc to get rid of all the crap I've put on it but it went wrong as u can see lol

But yeh, ill ring them up tomorrow and see what can be done.

Good news, they are sending out a repair man tomorrow to put in a new hard drive, CD drive and they are giving me a CD pack because for some reason i didn't receive them when i bought it.. and its not costing me nothing.

i thought 'BRANDED' computers come with a recovery partition which contains the setup files for installing windows?? it did on all the laptops I have for the missus and the kids!

i deleted these partitions as they are a waste of space and have all the OS discs on DVD or ISO. you didnt re-patition aswell did you, that could explain why you have done it before without a disk but not this time.
