the reason I ask is I have heard of people having various issues with screen ratios?

I have been offered a 27" HD tv to use as a monitor but what I want to know is

1. Would it be too big for what I need? I was considering 22" max?

2. Would I be better off buying a led Monitor rather than a TV?

3. what do I need to look out for and what do I want out of a monitors specs??

Dont wanna sound too simples, but I aint the best at this gadget malarky.

Cheers guys

so the timing 5ms / 1ms is the response time while refresh rate is expressed in Hertz such as 60 / 150Hz

response time is the time it needs to display the information it receives from the cable input
refresh rate is the number of updates the screen has

i however would not suggest high spec monitors like 1ms / 144Hz because they will end up waisted in most of the situations.. much depends on the games you are going to play and on your hardware spec of the PC

i probably suggest any size monitor with 5ms and 60Hz will be a good product today for what we are used to.

i'd suggest not to buy TV monitors because these are made for being looked at by far, at least 2meters and this means they are produced with a low pixel density.. (most of the times)

just think of how many 32inch tv screens are FullHD (1920x1080) and how many 22inch computer monitors are at the same resolution..
smaller monitors with same resolution mean higher pixel density mean better image quality seen from same distance..

example.. never sit in front of a 28inch monitor if this is not higher than a fullhd :)

I use a 27' iMac for mir, window mode makes it too small and full screen cuts of the edges. You get used to it though... unless you adjust resolution to stretch it out.

I've got 2 monitors, I've got a 30" screen which has a native resolution of 2560x1600. I have a 24" monitor which has a native resolution of 1920x1200. Both I believe are 60hz and both were top of the range when I got them (£1k for 30" and £600 iir for 24") I get better FPS when running mir on the 24" even though spec wise the 30" monitor is better in every way.

you get better fps on smaller monitors.. that is normal because you stress less the VGA card inside the PC..

you can have best monitor in the market but if you got a **** pc hanged to it then also monitor won't work at best..

ie: the first time i saw LG promote their 4k TV they connected a netbook to it and rendered a 4k video.. which obviously looked good but had a 14fps playback which spoiled all the presentation.

all the comments were like: wow, this is sooo slow and gave the fault to the TV

Yea' ofc you'll get better FPS on a smaller screen but surprised that it makes a difference with mir seeing how I've got 2 cards.

I do have a beast of a PC and can pretty much max out any game at 1600p however Mir I get like 40fps lol.

i see your point.. the only issue with mir i guess is that the fps is limited by the code..

most of the new generation games are made to take advantage of multi cpus and gpus.. doubt that chronicles has any of these features enabled. and if 40fps is what you are getting i probably think it is a cap limit frame rate.

strange you actually get lower frames on the bigger screen then since your dual vga setup

Yea' I'm puzzled by it, I specifically got cards with 4gb vram due to the larger monitor, while I know not every game isgoing to utilize it I have had some games at that res that do require 4GB vram, I'm going to try and disable a card and see if that helps as I'm really stumped why I have such low FPS.

I play with my tv hooked up to my PC which is a 42" 1080p LED and it's perfectly fine, only problem is I can't use a hdmi cable as the resolution is a tad out of sync so I use my VGA cable instead.
