everytime i download a small clip from the net its in all wierd colours (when played through wmp) does anyone know what codec wld fix this?

Update WMP to version 10.

tried that. but for some reason when i installed wmp10 it wldnt load up. screwed up completely so had to take back the computer about a week.

Noper. propper home edition of xp.

If WMP 10 couldn't install/play then there's another problem.

Is it a codec problem if i download a VIDEO FILE and it plays but i only hear the sound and the video part just stays black :S!

Any help appreciated, i was thinking its the codec?

i think the issues i have with my pc is because im at uni halls and cant update or do anything. dont think i can put sp2 on here unless i can download it directly. but im still trying. cheers for help.

just installed sp2. and it screws up my pc. when installed and windows loads nothing shows on my screen. no taskbar no icons. i can do ctrl+alt+delete and see whats running, but nothing else.

any ideas?

what happens when you manually start explorer?

Sounds like your computer was ****ed before you had this problem.

Repair with an SP2 disc, or reformat.

I just use VLC Media Player and have no need to install codecs ^_^

my pc used to be fooked. cldnt do much at all. got a new mb, but almost every other component is brand new aswell now. ill try these codecs and an sp2 disc, as i dont wanna format tbh.

edit. installed vlc and all my vids work fine now
