You know I still find it hard to come to terms with why Shi'ahs do that, especially since the Koran expressly says:

"No man shall bear the burden of another".

They make themselves bleed, because of the war between two factions of Islam over a political issue of succession. The Shi'ahs wanted a mocharch style Caliphate, the Sunnis wanted a democratic elected Caliphate. They were the majority and they voted for Hussayn I believe (not Sadam -_-) whilst the Shi'ahs believed Ali had succession rights because he was in the lineage of the Prophet. (btw I'm talking about 1400 years ago)

Ps - If any collywobble Muslim comes up to you and says Islam is the religion of Peace; say no it isn't, it is the Religion of Surrender. The word 'Ibadah' which is translated in context as 'Worship' actually routes from the word Slavery.

So every Muslim is a slave of Allah. Very harsh terminology, and rightly so, it shouldn't be watered down from the original meaning.

It does have a 'upside' though. Ibadah or 'worship' also covers everything from 'smiling' to giving 'charity'. They're all forms of ibadah.

For Shi'ahs that is also Ibadah. Geez I dunno, they should stop doing it, period.

Hey, hey, hey. Careful there. That's the ceremony of Ashurah on the 10th of Muharaam, celebrated by some (2%) Shi'ah (10% of) Muslims. It is self flagelations (like when Priests flagelate themselves in time of war/famine/diesease). The schism is actually political and not religious, so I think the Shi'ahs are taking it a bit far. Even the Ayatollah Khomeini codemned the ritual (the highest Shi'ah leader) but tradition is so deep.

Wasn't that photo taken before the 10th of Muharaam? 10th of Muharaam was 9/02/06, n/m

I apologise if I upset any Shi'ah, I thought that they use to hit themselves on the back with long chainy sword things, not use a knife on their head. Also a majority of Muslims believe that what the Shi'ahs are doing is incorrect, which causes conflict in their own religion. This is what I'm trying to say, many people arn't well educated in religion and they dont realise that Muslims are split into groups (mainly Sunny and Shi'ah) So one group believe that the other is wrong. So you are judging every Muslim on a Minority of the Muslims (Shi'ah) Also the minority of Muslims that you are making you opinion on, the majority (Shi'ah) also disagree with what they are doing, so even though some Muslims are agreeing with you that what they are doing is wrong, people are saying that they are wrong, even though they disagree with it and are not even doing it.

Dunno if you could understand that:D

I to do not understand why they do it, I also disagree with what they do, so do almost a billion muslims. The reason they do it is linked to Ali.

True. They should stop doing it, there is nothing in Islam that say's that Shi'ah should do it, infact in Islam it is regarded as a sin to do it.

EDIT EDIT:

BTW the point i tried to make in my first post, in the EDIT, is what I have repeatedly said, you cant judge 1.2billion+ people on a few people.

FYI guys, it's spelled Quran

I prefer to spell it phonetically like yourself, but no it isn't spelt any specific way m8. There is no specific code of transliteration from Arabic to English (I think we need one). For example although Mohammed is often accepted as the correct transliteration for the Prophet's name, you'd get several variations:

  1. Mehmet
  2. Muhammed
  3. Muham'ed
  4. Moh'Med

If you want to take it very seriously, you'd spell it: Qur'an (notice the apostrophe).
