Does anyone know how to transfer a .com domain to another registrar without having access to the current registar account? For example if a web design/hosting company is holding the domain ransom because the customer wants to leave..

It's easy for .co.uk domains because Nominet offer a service for £10 to transfer, but iCANN do not.

You Cant.

I work for 123-reg Domains :)

As we say, Your ****ed bro,

Registrars class the account holder as the owner of the domain name, the whois information means nothing to us.

In very rare occasions we will do a internal transfer if you can prove the whois info, depends how much you kick off.

You say that to customers?

Good to know though...it's currently with 1and1, I'll keep contacting them.

Also I've just transferred 2 domains to 123-reg, how long does this normally take for them to appear in my account?

Depends, if their .co.uk 24 hours from transfer requested/ips tags changed anything else 5 days from when you authortised it.

Ha nah i dont say "your ****ed" we say

Registrars class the account holder as the owner of the domain name, the whois information is not legally binding, and we do not get involved in domain disputes.

Thats the offical line lol.

It takes up 24 hours, so it could be 5minutes, could be 12 hours, you get the gist.

Have you checked the small print of the people you originally registered the domains with ?
They might have something in there you can use against them to persuade them to play ball.
