And I know there are several releases already out of these new developed
GFX drviers, fact is I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole because of
reported problems with overlocked cards or even slightly touched cards overheating.
I'd rather wait for the full release thankyou very much
There's only so much editing those settings to do. To increase performance truly they need to get the new gfx drivers out there![]()

the reason it was optimized for nvidia is because it's nvidia's *****... nvidia sponsored.

actually the 4.9 beta's fix those problems that were with VERY FEW LIMITED cards with the 4.7 and below drivers. And i have been using the 4.8 beta's for a while and they are fine, ATI has great beta drivers.
urbanfox said:what are you talking about not much editing those settings can do? YOU CANT PICK THOSE SETTINGS, they are automatically detected with your card by the software code of the doom 3 engine, and actually the nv10 which is the lowest rendering path does of course not produce a great image as the ARB2 path hwoever it still looks stunning on low end cards like a ti4200 at even crap resolution like 640x480 800x600 etc
Minion said:Of course, nVidia is doing this on purpose to get software optimised for their cards, which is why it's like that on most games now.
*sigh* There are many changes which you can change, all of which i've done and it still doesn't come close to the nVidia equivilant. Fact is, we have to wait for these drivers to be complete before the radeon's can compete.

I've read on many forums that these are causing overheating and many severe problems. Hence why it's called a BETA, problems can be expected.

shooters out there, eg quake 3,ut 2004, etc.. But then again doom never
really was that much of a fast paced game.

In terms of the changes I was talking about, research is a newbie's best friend.
http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewt...ghlight=&sid=8e4b949674eece27dee4c51b4770efffI haven't tried it myself, but apparently it improves performance significantly.
Minion said:The top of the line alienware boxes, we're talking thousands and thousands here (or even people who have gone over the top) can run this smoothly.
The spec on a few of the benchmarks to get 60-70FPS constantly on was a 3.6ghz, 2gb ram beast of a machine with a nice nVidia FX 6800 Ultra.
*sigh* I wish I had one of those right about now.
urbanfox said:It's not fast paced in the sense you can move 20mph, but this game is extremely fast paced, monsers jumping out everywhere moviong fast, the first couple minutes of the portal opening its like ur being chased its crazy.
and damian turn ur resoltuion up to 1024x768 and turn quality to medium you should notice a nice difference for ur hardware![]()
i never said high, i said medium and def no AA. u dont have to use high with 1024 it just automatically puts it to that, you can change it back.damian said:It's default settings was on medium, but I upped the resolution to 1024x768
and changed the settings to high, and i switched on its anti-aliasing to x2,
and it's fair to say the game was unplayable :P
urbanfox said:that's sad, u seem to be incredibly closeminded to those who don't use proper grammar on the internet even though you could probably learn loads from them
Minion said:Indeed, I am, fact is I cannot see people who use improper grammar teaching me that much since they haven't mastered the basic use of language.
Granted it's online, but that's just damn degrading.
