Course it was optimised for nVidia, it's like that with most games now.
And I know there are several releases already out of these new developed
GFX drviers, fact is I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole because of
reported problems with overlocked cards or even slightly touched cards overheating.

I'd rather wait for the full release thankyou very much ;)

There's only so much editing those settings to do. To increase performance truly they need to get the new gfx drivers out there :)

the reason it was optimized for nvidia is because it's nvidia's *****... nvidia sponsored.

actually the 4.9 beta's fix those problems that were with VERY FEW LIMITED cards with the 4.7 and below drivers. And i have been using the 4.8 beta's for a while and they are fine, ATI has great beta drivers.

what are you talking about not much editing those settings can do? YOU CANT PICK THOSE SETTINGS, they are automatically detected with your card by the software code of the doom 3 engine, and actually the nv10 which is the lowest rendering path does of course not produce a great image as the ARB2 path hwoever it still looks stunning on low end cards like a ti4200 at even crap resolution like 640x480 800x600 etc

Of course, nVidia is doing this on purpose to get software optimised for their cards, which is why it's like that on most games now.

I've read on many forums that these are causing overheating and many severe problems. Hence why it's called a BETA, problems can be expected.

*sigh* There are many changes which you can change, all of which i've done and it still doesn't come close to the nVidia equivilant. Fact is, we have to wait for these drivers to be complete before the radeon's can compete.

Aye, it's like how Half-Life 2, which does look to be a better game imho, will be an ATI game.

What you probably didn't know about those with overheating problems is that they tried overclocking their card.

*** Auron gets back to his ever-crashing Sapphire Radeon 9200 with Catalyst 4.9's

On a sidenote, not even the nVidia cards can run this game smoothly, so i fail to see the point in worrying about the current generation of graphic's card's performance....

most of nvidia's games run better on ati lol

The probelm is with cats 4.7 and below drivers, and the beta's were only released to HELP this issue and it has a lot for many people *sigh*

I've just got this game myself, it seems rather slow in comparison to other
shooters out there, eg quake 3,ut 2004, etc.. But then again doom never
really was that much of a fast paced game.

I'm running this game on:

P4 2.8 1mb cache.
1GB DDR Ram.
Geforce FX 5700 256

It runs great on it's default settings, and haven't really bothered to tweak it.
I'd definitely recommend this game, it's well worth playing, even if you aint
a fan of shoot-em-ups!

It's not fast paced in the sense you can move 20mph, but this game is extremely fast paced, monsers jumping out everywhere moviong fast, the first couple minutes of the portal opening its like ur being chased its crazy.

and damian turn ur resoltuion up to 1024x768 and turn quality to medium you should notice a nice difference for ur hardware :)

The top of the line alienware boxes, we're talking thousands and thousands here (or even people who have gone over the top) can run this smoothly.
The spec on a few of the benchmarks to get 60-70FPS constantly on was a 3.6ghz, 2gb ram beast of a machine with a nice nVidia FX 6800 Ultra.
*sigh* I wish I had one of those right about now.

No person who uses "u" gets any of my respect.
In terms of the changes I was talking about, research is a newbie's best friend.

I haven't tried it myself, but apparently it improves performance significantly.

that's sad, u seem to be incredibly closeminded to those who don't use proper grammar on the internet even though you could probably learn loads from them

I was talking about ingame rendering paths.. so how are u arguing against me with fan tweaks?

My system can run it fine at nice gfx settings and it cost under $1600 USD and this was with a 19" flat screen and months ago. FYI Alienware computers are owned by any real hardware enthuists high end pc for thousands less.

It's default settings was on medium, but I upped the resolution to 1024x768
and changed the settings to high, and i switched on its anti-aliasing to x2,
and it's fair to say the game was unplayable :P

i never said high, i said medium and def no AA. u dont have to use high with 1024 it just automatically puts it to that, you can change it back.

1024x768
medium
no aa

EDIT

oh btw minion, u said that u saw some system get 60+ fps... well considering the game is locked at 60fps and to get anything over 60fps u would have to run the timedemo... and then factoring in the timedemo is prety intense... i would love to see any system get anywhere near 70fps and im talking about real-play settings. might want to do research before "u" post

EDIT 2

doom 3 tweaks

Indeed, I am, fact is I cannot see people who use improper grammar teaching me that much since they haven't mastered the basic use of language.
Granted it's online, but that's just damn degrading.

ok thats great.. now will you please attempt to refute my arguments and show me any factual truth on the basis of your claims... or would u like to just leave it at the fact that u got told by someone who doesn't use proper grammar on the internet (even though [maybe it's just me...] despite the big importance u put on it, it doesn't seem like much of an issue to me, but then again i am the one in question using the improper grammar... just attempt to refute my claims and leave it at that instead of going on and on about ur awesome grammar skills)

Yeah, but your eye operates at 72 hertz. So technically, the game is moving slower than your eye.

For me, a game isn't smooth until it stays 80+ FPS.

Of course, if Id had chosen to use DirectX, i'm sure they'd be nearing that marker....
