I quite liked my mates Saxo, only a standard 1.1 but lasted well. Clio is my personal favourite for a 'small car'.

Yeah, no point getting fully comp until you have a year or 2 no claims tbh.

You can get loads of online theory tests, just check google.

Yeah. Just saw gotrex's reply. I was told to do my theory before hand though.

Lol, the smoking ban was great.. as of 1st September the age went up... my birthday :) Just got in there.

I passed my test in September, currently got a 1.4 T Reg clio, fully comp insurance, £1100, but this is due to the fact that my parents are both insured on the car with my Mother as the Main Driver, this can be seen as illegal if your parents have no intention of driving the car but as mine do it's all fine, but yeah if your parents are going on your insurance be careful ;) they are starting clamp down on that, and in regards to your theory, book it whenever you want, just make sure you revise, your Instructor can't tell how much revision you are doing at home, the driving lessons will just help you understand road signs and signals a little easier etc. but whenever you feel ready, book it, you can always change it for a later date if you do it i think two weeks before the date.

1. u dnt need to be 18 to get your license, that roumer comes round every year for people about to turn 17

2. u can do your driving test at 16 if you have certain disabilities, my m8 has to wear them metal things on his legs like forest gump, only needs to sleep in them but it made him able to do his test at 16

car wise, all that **** about insurance is a load of balls. dont go for a corsa or sum crappy 106 or saxo, your bound to have high insurance on them because of the ammount of accidents people have in them because they normally young drivers and just thrash them about.

myself i go for the type of cars older people drive, was looking for a volvo s60 t5 the other week, priced my insurance up at £1500, then tried my insurance on a ford KA and it was £1300. Now im not being funny id rather pay the extra £200 on my insurance and have a good car then sum ****ty ford KA.

all i can say is try your insurance on loads of different cars, just been n got a rover 75 2.0 v6 love the interior n the insurance on it for me is cheaper then a 1.1 corsa.

another tip for your insurance, have you as the policy holder and add 2 women who have been driving for 10+ years and have had no crashes or claims within 5years. this tends to drop my insurance alot.

doesnt matter who the women are, could add the queen if u wished, its not illegal to insure sum1 on your car on your policy.
wouldnt add the queen though due to the job type may up the insurance from stalkers + assassination attempts that may be made to the car lol

good luck, post office insurance seems to be cheap lately, but keep checking about as insurance goes up n down all the time

edit: like skyline said though, get a cheap car (like £600ish tops) for your first car, so your not worried bowt bumping it etc., you learn to drive AFTER your test. just dont aim ur cars at corsas/clios n stuff because ur afraid of the insurance. u wont know unless u try it. thers a rover 75 1.8 on autotrader for £600 atm, be a rly nice first car n its cheap, the engine isnt very reliable though iv heard the 1.8 is rubbish whereas the 2.0v6 and 2.5v6 are tanks

Can't be bothered to read over the last few posts.... but £3k for a first car?

Haha, my mates just spent £3k on his first car... A Punto (Won Punto of the year 2 years running) done up to the max, body kits sub's etc, which I personally think is gay tbh. Now he is being quited £1500 for third party fire n theft...

Get a 1.1/1.2, you're probably going to fook it up anyway.

your m8 needs shootin, wot sort of muppet wud spend 3k on a punto lol theyre utter ****

n i duno why people go for 1.0/1.1/1.2's, the engine size n crap means nothing, and alot of time insurance groups mean nothing too, go get a quote on a smart car, theyre insurance group 1 so should be cheapest yea? nahh they not

like i said in other post, i go for bigger cars that young lads dont tend to go for cos theyre scared of the insurance,im 20 now n my last 3 cars have been a rover 75 2.0 v6, MGF 1.8 (just wnted to try a convertable rear wheel drive), and 2.0 mondeo zetec, i have 0 years no claims as i was on my dads insurance for first year n didnt drive for half a year cos i thought i was guna get banned for no insurance. The dearest insurance car iv had so far was a 1.9 diesel 306, the mondeo was £600 cheaper on insurance then the 306.

only big cars tht seem to be dear on insurance for me are audi's, dunno why but they are.

go for a bigger car :thumbup2:

My sisters literally just passed her test and bought a 1.3 Fiesta this week and insured it.

Cost her £2900 and the insurance worked out at £900 third party or £950 fully comp. That was after shopping around as well (cheaper as shes a girl?) so don't think you MUST get 3rd party, if its a cheap car then there won't be much difference.

you should always check fully comp, internet prices are stupid, most companies give their fully comp insurance cheaper then third party, nothing to do with the car price.

and yea girls get cheaper car insurance which is a piss take lol

To be honest, you can take one of those intense courses where you pay like £400 for example and you drive for a week or two and take your test at the end.

on your insurance question. if your too young and worried about insurance you can put your mom/dad as main driver. It lowers it right down.
Insurance is affected allot by area by the way.

You might want to swap them numbers around mate.

You'll find you can spend £1000 on the car and pay £3000 insurance. You'll never find a £3k car that only costs £1k to insure. I spent 600 on an old fiesta, and 1.2k to insure it when i was 17. Sold that a few years ago though, as it just wasn't worth the cash.

Them cars you posted will be pretty high up on the insurance, spesh if your doing it solo.

/Gand

my car cost £7800 and im paying £1050 for the insurance... so errm not really ;P im 18 years old and my car is 1.4

1: not sure to be honest. try the dvla website?

2: again check dvla website should have some info.

3: a provisional as already explained is just a license to learn to drive. You can apply for a moped/50cc motorbike license at 16 and automatically get your car provisional active from your 17th birthday. So don't nescessarily have to wait until 3 months before your 17th birthday to apply.

5: Just shop around for insurance, try different cars at different values. Also try to keep the maximum mileage for your first year below 10k miles and it helps to lower the quote. Also going for a car with alarm/immobiliser etc can help reduce your quote. As many have said your first year or 2 of driving your bound to get a few knocks at least, so better to drive a shed thats low on insurance than pay out loads for a first car and trash it within weeks, trust me you'll be gutted if you did that! Example, was given a mk4 escort cossie years ago, was worth about 6-7k back then, had it 3 weeks and decided to take it round some woods a family friend owned, took a corner too fast and wrapped it round a tree. lol says it all really.

They're changing it to 17 to start your lessons and 18 to do your test and drive legally, so in theory u have a year lessons before u progress onto your test.

Or so my driving instructor says..

You can get cheap insurance just by editing, editing and again editing your quote's just change ur parts of ur info and ull notice u myt knock like £100 off, internet insurance is stupid really. I dont however advise a big car they're much easier to bump and cost much more on petrol.

First car your looking at 1 litre - 1.2 if your a big spender.

To get cheaper insurance you will be looking at smaller engine and older car.

Dont be looking at them cars you posted, look at a saxo or a corsa ( not the new model). Am spending £1000 on my first car thats it. all it needs because more than likely am going to have a few bump and scraps along the way so why waste big $$ on a new car. Aim for insurance group 1.
