Ok basically the system messed up needed a reinstall to sort but she didnt wanna lose her files so didnt format the drive.

Install went fine system works grand now however she cant access any of her old files the system knows they are there (Space is being used up) but when she tries to access the folder there stored in she gets an access denied message

...See she passworded her original account and stored the majority of her files on the desktop and my documents

Is there anyway to access the old files she knows the password obviously Oh and I should add windows only thinks theres two accounts Her new one and Guest

theres that, or just run a search on your computer for the name of her old acount. obviously the folder will be called ''(name of old account)'' so the computer should find it in a search.

I had this prob, to solve you need software to scan keys to unlock the user permissions.

as admin:
Right click the folder, properties
security tab
click the advanced tab
click the owner tab
click your username, click apply
click ok
click ok

----

Thats how i did it when i put my old disk into my computer when i reinstaleld onto a new disk, no need for safe mode

All the methods you said i did and didnt work..

MY best guess is she made a new user account transfered all the old doc files from old name to new, if you did that then your doomed and need the special software and then i can say i was right.

It doesn't matter WHAT she did. My method works. Excuse me, M$'s method works. FYI, if it was protected she couldn't have copied them in the first place....
