if its been well maintained yes, alot have passed keys with an enthusiast who would have drilled **** loads into an engine rebuild, full respray etc, there are so many tidy mk2's around, yes theres a few ropey ones around and there are a 90's hot hatch im not denying that, but a focus... hardly a comparison in my books.

a focus is not a comparison lol, didn't say it was. I'm getting at that maybe the Golf is not an ideal car for a new driver due to German cars being very high on insurance, and off the top off my head a focus is a very nippy car and not too much on insurance, the words "GTI" put the insurance up a lot when your under 21 with less than 3 years no claims.

and the VW was 13th on that list for reliability, for such a huge car manufacturer that is very bad, had 2 Golfs in the family a while back, nothing but trouble, but depends how lucky you get.

Went to speak to the bloke saturday, he wasn't there and the bloke that owns it is german so its hard to understand anything he says but they seem dodgy to me. I asked for mot details, service historys etc and he said its got it all but they need to goto denmark to get them so im not sure tbh. He wouldnt let me look inside or under the bonnet as it was his brothers and said i need to ring him.

Bummer >.<

im not disputing the fact it could be unreliable and a focus is probly reliable, but its funny u mention ur 2 golfs cos ive had bad experiances with a focus i had, also surly it would of been better to mention a car similar to the golf as as ive already said a focus doesnt touch the sides to me.

but anyway this could go round n round 4 ages on whos rite n whos rong so this is my last comment on this subject. :)

Xander, id walk away or get all the info u can outa him then walk away lol just to see if his blagging :P

i did recommend a civic type R earlier on in the thread :) though it probably wouldn't be realistic to a new driver. Prob the best car i have owned, yet the only car that was loyal to me gets smashed up, sods law.

What type of Type R was it?

The new "COncept" ones are nice, but dont come close to the model before.

it was the older model i had, not 2 into the new model, as i don't really like triangular exhausts and i have heard the body roll on it is very bad when trying to break the laws of physics on a roundabout :P The test on topgear showed the older model was faster round a track to my suprise, getting a lotus exige on my doorstep in 6 weeks possibly, so i can then tell you how crap that will be :) but i hear it is a very very good car, i'v tried to do my homework on it as it is breaking my bank.

Was talking to a guy who had the new Type R.

Said he had the model before that one aswell, and the older one was alot faster, and alot better drive. Said he made a big mistake trading it in for the new model.
