Ive never known so many people actually get this wrong and google does usually help.

The problem your having is that though the first part of the instalation has worked, its unable to boot the boot menu on the hdd, this is ether due to a corrupt cd or a fault with the Hdd.

You need to completly remove the partition from the hdd, full format it and then create a new partition. But dont use the xp disk to do this, you need to get hold of ether a boot disk with with all the manual tools to help you manually re-format and partition it or by a new Hdd, but i would recomned getting a new xp disk as well though. Seeing as they are scratched to hell.
where do i get that lol?

basically i just gotta buy a new HDD and windows xp disk? -.-

just search for boot disk on google, you will find 100's make sure you have one that supports fdisk tool,

wow mate 1st line support, maybe in a few years you can make it to 2nd / 3rd line support and they will trust you with a server!!!

dont listen to his recomendation its retarded.

why buy a new xp disc? download a copy, you own the license you could break your original CD in 1/2 and download another one and it would be legal.

also, try holding F10 or F12 when you boot up, if you do have a recovery disk built in that will normally give you its options, but if your ben from mir im pretty sure yours is a custom built machine.

edit - you also say you fix 130 computers a day?

so in an 8 hour day thats 480 minutes you fix 130 computers? thats 1 computer every 3.7 minutes. i would be surprised if you could get an average person on to command prompt and check there ip in that time. im sure if we worked out time for each phone call, dinners office discussions etc you would be down to 1 computer every 1 1/2 minutes. why dont microsoft have you at there head office?

If your going to lie, make it believable.

my machine was custom built, it dont have a recovery option thingy, and yes i am ben from mir.

managed 2 reformat... got windows up and workin like normal but... still gettin the same error

ive managed 2 get around the problem by pressin F8 and goin into boot menu on start up, then bootin from harddrive and it all starts up find.

so im kinda confused now lol, surely if HDD was broken i wouldnt be able 2 get windows on it ok etc? :x

this may seem a little weird, as im pretty sure it would boot anyway, but if you check your bios normally by pressing F2 or Del as soon as pc starts up, and make sure your hard drive is in boot order options.

If it isnt there could lie your problem, but as i said earlier i think it would just boot anyway after checking the other 3 devices 1st.

as for your drivers Dos options, thats its make im guessing its a raptop 10000 rpm 16/32mb cache

just google the drive with driver at the end and you should find what you are looking for.

It wouldnt check them if autoseek/detect wasnt switched on...well with my bios it doesnt unless there set to on.

When you work for a comapny that doesnt need second line seeing as they found that 1st line can just do it as good and if not quicker.

Also i said on average so its not always that high, but i guess you did goto school and did maths, cause then you would know how to work an average out.

You would also be amazed at how many home users have the same fault, so being good at my job helps me to diag fault and repair it in under 4 min. But then again your that good you would know this.

Now as for not knowing what im doing how about a bit of this then.

If you need a boot disk to give you all the options that you need, then just goto the packard bell website when you can download a boot disk directly from then. Yes its ment for packard bell machines but it also works on other machines as well(seeing as its a generic boot disk ne ways.) so no need to google.

Oh and also i said i would recomend getting a new xp disk, nothing about buying one there.
But if people like you wanna try and make yourself look good and put other people down who are also trying to help then continue with your remarks. Im sure i can come back at you every time.

If your after a boot disk then deffinetly goto the packard bell website as they have one ready for download.

Also to get a copy of xp, just use torrent sites.

What you also need to check is if there are no over bootable devices connected such as flash cards and also set the Hdd as the only boot device. Doesnt matter about reading from the disk as it will still do that ne ways.

iam quite sure this thread was made so bon could sort his problem out with his pc, not a slanging match of whos the best and who knows more then the other about pc's or job positions or any other subject.

please stay on topic

i would help you but i can safely say i know no where near enough about this subject well no more then the current posters anyway lol but i hope you can find a resolution to the issue mate.

my opinion for what its worth, is try and find a method to get to fdisk, delete the partitions and then do a full format, check all the data cables, change the xp disc for one your mate might have or someone else who has a recov cd perhaps

it was nothing to do with whos better, he was recommending he should spend money on something that he shouldnt have to, telling him how good he was, theres a difference telling ppl how good u are, and the doing it costing them money.

then get the data lifeguard for DOS (cd)
burn it
boot from the cd on your dead comp
in the lifeguard program, do some scans if you like (quick, extended, smart). if it shows some sort of error. (GOOD sign)
or go straight to "write zero to drive" aka "low level format".
after format, do a quick scan (no error = good)

Low Level Format = makes your HDD "like" you just bought it.

hope that works.

I wouldnt advise this.....I did this once and the copy was virus city, never download a xp copy on torrent their the most common app to be used as a virus feeder to people's computers. and tbh if it was your disk it wouldnt boot period.
