reason why they voided warranty was because he had modified the software on the phone with 3rd party software that wasn't wasn't approved by apple, which breached certain terms and conditions. In my case i'm not wrong.... have also known some1 with a nokia 5800 who couldnt claim a warranty due to just changing the product code on it and installing different region firmware.

Apple do not refuse repairs for jailbroken phones unless you mention it was jailbroken. Many many people have sent in non working phones (Or went to the Genius Bars in the US) explained that there phone no longer turns on and get handed a new phone no questions asked. The only way Apple would know is if he told them. It is not feasible for Apple to check that a phone is jailbroken or not. They'd get the phone see it wont turn on pack it up send the person a refurbed iPhone and send the bricked one off to were ever they send the phone to be repaired (They obviously can repair a bricked phone). Or they'd just use there recovery software on the iPhone and repair it back to default. This is what happens and continues to happen. There is no warranty risk to Jailbreaking the iPhone unless you tell them how it bricked.

In regards to the Nokia 5800 not only are they different companies but the Nokia Service centre that the phone went too probably used there recovery software which failed to work because of the product code change and different region firmware and so they refused to repair it.

i wont argue with you on that one i never used to like Nokia at all. Did have an iphone but now replaced it with a 5800 and am loving the phone, once you get firmware upgrades it's a great bit of kit, but id advise you to have a look at the n97 does look very nice.

and to Milo yes i do agree with you about getting replacement phones no questions asked as i have done it a few times, one phone wasn't even broken it was just all scratched so i said it was broken, virgin came to my door with a brand new phone and didn't even check the old one, just saying be careful.

Jailbreaking doesn't affect any applications on the phone unless you install a mod of some sort.

http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ That's the website of the people who jailbreak iPhones download QuickPwn and it will run you through the process.

When it's done you will have an application called Cydia which is basically the jailbroken Appstore version.

For free appstore app's you'll need to add a source to Cydia and download an app called Installous. You can find out more at hackulo.us

How are you finding the HD?

Sorry to hi-jack the thread haha.

I have the HD, but unsure if i'm totally happy with it so far. I dont pay anything, so may sell it and get a new contract.

had it since it came out and i know what where your coming from its a good phone and all but am i happy with it...yes and no. no because even tho i can lock the screen the standby button (power button) ALWAYS gets pressed in my pocket truning on the screen which EATS power. and on the plus side i have the app that lets you download movies from tube8

Decided against jailbreaking my iPhone, i've boxed it up (incase I break it! :P) and i'm taking it back this weekend. Then i'm just going to wait for the 19th and get the iPhone 3Gs, can't wait! :D

Thanks for the help Milo :]

It hopefully shouldn't take to long for a 3GS Jailbreak but it took a long while for the 2nd gen iPod Touch.

But it's worth getting it and waiting for the Jailbreak. Hope you can return it smoothly ^^

Hell yeah! Can't wait! :D

The Carphone Warehouse site says within 14 days with all the accessories and manuals, which I have. So i'll just say i'm not happy with it and there shouldn't be any problems :D

nice phone, i have the red trim as it seemed a bit more manly lol. Mine keeps messing up though as i'v hacked it and i got so many apps stored on the phone it doesn't know what to do with itself.
