Jail breaking it apparently gives u loads of things you have to pay for, for free i was going to do it with mine but decided not to, rather just pay for things if i want then. i know a few people here have jail broke there's so might aswel wait for their reply :P

You'll need to jailbreak it for emulators. And if you want to be a naughty pirate every single appstore application can be downloaded free of charge from http://appulo.us/ You also need to jailbreak for free apps.
Jailbreaking is an easy process nowadays though at the moment 3.1 is not jailbreakable. If you are on 3.0 or 3.0.1 you can jailbreak using RedSn0w which you can get at http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ Just follow the instructions.

Jailbreaking is win, I don't like the look of the iPhone's default menu things.

i can never jailbreak it lol ive tried on all the diff versions. i do what it tells me to but it just doesent work then i have to restore my phone
Looks loads better if i restore will it go back down too the version it came with? Want too jailbreak but i updated to 3.1

That wont work on the 3GS. Apple fixed the bug that let people Jailbreak 3.0 on the 3GS so it won't work anymore.
mine installed Cydia run it but still got no idea how to put jailbroke apps onto it, go onto cydia gives me all the sections changes ect and updating database but no idea where to download stuff for it? guessing its search or sections (abit of a stupid question)

Yeah you can get things like themes, sounds and stuff like the Bluetooth package I have from Cydia. But to put downloaded apps on it just google how to do it. You SSL into your phone and change a file then you can add them using iTunes. It's easy as pie.

im unsure of what to do with mine, i got mine in america when i went over on holiday (waaaay back, the first week they were released there) ive never been really interested in it tbh till my phone broke about 2 weeks ago and now i have an american iphone which doesnt read my sim card lol
would love if someone tell me what stuff i need to do to jailbreak it, dont know what version or anyting it is >< (would have thought it was like v1.1 lol)
