if there ever was a nuclear strike on any country the ppl in the direct blast zone will be the lucky ones as they will be vaporized and wont have to deal with the radiation poison also wouldnt there be a EMP's set off with the explosions which will fk up all electrical appliances within the blast zone

Actually im not so sure americas demise will kill all the internet or MIR/LOMCN (altho i aint done a traceroute). Many countries including the UK have exchanges to keep their local traffic... local. Even the DNS system should be fine with the lack of root DNS servers, as long as most other local DNS servers don't falter (altho updating would be a problem).

Actually, most UK ISPs route all their traffic through the USA anyway. It's why even on broadband you get > 100ms pings for most websites, while a select few give you ~ 30ms.

America will not fire nukes! for gods sake, im sick of these ''**** the government even though i have no idea what im talking about'' bandwagons. Would you be able to do a better job? They're not ****ing stupid, they didnt get to their positions for no reason. Why would they launch a nuke? They know what would happen.

With LINX handling 96% of UK traffic, I doubt your claim of 'most'. However there could be some relation in "Internal routes within the UK account for only 4.4 per cent of the connections".

Bad configuration/routing?

Actually, it's just down to ISPs. Most ISPs wind up routing their traffic through to the US' servers. See my tracert to www.lomcn.co.uk below, and you'll understand :P

While LINX handle the traffic BETWEEN the ISPs, the second quote highlights my point. Most traffic leaves the UK, and then re-enters it.

Then I suggest you reread your traceroute, as the one for LOMCN (datahost) is US server. As all it tells me is that your connection routes to LOMCN in the US, which is correct.

LINX is not always easily identifyable as a hop;
https://www.linx.net/www_public/our_members/

Nevertheless here is my tracert for the UK server bbc.co.uk;

Code:
Tracing route to bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.131]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  rei02.mshome.net [192.168.0.1]
  2    35 ms    36 ms    37 ms  rdsl-lond-uk02.nw.mediaways.net [62.55.96.197]
  3    38 ms    33 ms    34 ms  rmwc-lond-uk02-gigaet-6-1.nw.mediaways.net [62.55.96.9]

That's because the BBC fits into that lovely 4.4% fully internal traffic.

I would provide an example of the UK->USA-> UK flow, except all my tracert's are ending prematurely all of a sudden :P

It would take a serious manic, to fire a nuke, even a team of maniacs.

Firstly, firing a nuke against anyone, would ensure you would lose becuase an attack of that magnatude with so many other countries equiped with the same firepower would effectively ensure the end of your country.

Countries like nukes becuase they are a show of military strength and prowess, and provide protection against other nukes that wont be fire. They are really only there for the "fear factor"

Would you open fire with cruise missiles on a country if you knew they could nuke you into oblivion? i think not.

As for a dictator saying fire a nuke at America, i bet many of the capable technitians wouldnt have the balls of steel to take so many lives, unless they were all seriously stupid and maniacal.

No. Instead, you give your nuke to state-sponsored terrorists. These individuals are not acting on behalf of the state, and so there is no 'legal' basis for war.

That is the single biggest threat to peace. Crazy middle-eastern nations KNOW NATO could quite easily wipe them from the face of this planet, but know they can avoid this by blaming it on 'Terrorists'.
