fair few servers on Leo's server count which are allowing port 6000 (ppl can lvl up/kit up etc on ur server) even tho theres bin plenty of warnings about this.

tip: if ur 1 of the server owners with port 6k open id take ur server down and close the port.

soz for bump but i want ppl to see it, shouldnt a mod sticky a thread explaining how to block this? its quite a big problem if the server owners dont close it.

remember not everyone is good at working pc's etc and some may need help with stuff like this but check Leo's server count and goto port list put in IP and u can see a few are still allowing port 6k

so why isnt it made into a sticky? :drobot: sorry if it already has been but i dont understand ppl are hosting 24/7 servers and allowing a port which can end a server if the owner doesnt make backup's daily.

It's not about being good at computers or whatever, it's about common sense. Obviously this problem has been stated to death here and those who wish to ignore it do so at their own risks. They can PM/make threads here if they wished to.

i agree but a txt file explaining how to use port 6k bin passed around now by a few kids (aged 15-) :agm:

Yep, and a guide on how to use the built in firewall within XP/2k3 is already stickied in the relevant forum.

I had hoped that adding port 6k to the checklist would make them see the mistakes they were making. Luckily, there has been at least 2 servers that have disabled it since seeing it on the list.

some people have other fw's than zonealarm. most id think, you dont want 2 firewalls installed. so that guide is pointless to most imo. if you can make it more general it might be better. nortan sort of uses that method.

soon as i take down my nortan fw and put up wfw i get all sorts coming in. and usually no message asking me if i want to accept it or not.
