Monitor failure

I've spent all day moving stuff to / from mine and my sisters room (as I will be leaving for uni soon) but my monitor has decided to stop working. The monitor has not been exposed to any dampness or water nor has it been bashed or dropped.

When I turn the power on the DVD player built in with the TV / monitor makes a noise as normal (e.g. it powers up) but the monitor itself has no visual or sound and the LED does not light up at all. I've tried switching power mains and power cables. I was thinking of changing the 'fuse' but I feel if that had blown it would have affected the DVD player too. I feel that the only thing left could be a failure on the circuit board (e.g. something have blown up). My mum and dad work in electronics for boat panels so If I can't find a fix I'll just ask them to open it up and see if they can replace pieces if they seem damaged.

Does anyone have any other suggestions that I can try?

Is there any switch that determines input source, ie PC, DVD etc. and it's been moved in transit ?

It's 5 am now so I won't look but I did think looked pretty much all over incase there was any other switches etc but I didn't see anything, i'll take another look when I wake up later in the day but it just seems odd that the DVD player works and the monitor doesn't.

There was a case years ago when a big company in the U.S. had a system failure and all panic set in as nothing could reboot the system.
After many hours of searching, it was found that a cleaner had unplugged the main system from the mains to do her hoovering.

So it doesn't matter how serious a problem seems, you always need to check the obvious first !

On topic: I asked my mum to open it up and look at the circuit board, can't find anything else that could have affected it.

I had a viewsonic monitor die on me.
The actual monitor itself was fine but the on/off switch which I think connects to some capacitor discharge unit or something wasn't working.
A bit like a car not starting because the starter motor has died.
It still stands in the corner for when I can be bothered to either mend it or bin it.
