So having played Jamie's Mir2 server earlier this year, and having spoke to him numerous times back then, I was pleasantly surprised to see him launching a Mir3 server.
So I gave it a go and these are my initial thoughts:
This is my personal opinion, but I absolute hate this "version" of Mir3. It's feels very cheap, and cut down. What I mean by that, is that I'm sure a lot of you guy's will remember what Mir3 used to be like. Remember Evil's Illusion and Judgement of Blood? Those version of Mir3 felt alot meatier and more complete. When they brought Mir3 to Europe a number of years ago, it was stripped and raped of alot of its content. Maps were redesigned and made smaller, dungeons all looked the same, monsters no longer made any idle sounds... All these things made Euro Mir3 a big disappointment to me.
Which brings me to Zircon. I was disappointed to see Jamie chose to mimic Euro Mir3 with all these stripped down elements. I couldn't even copy over the missing sounds from the old clients. They didn't work. Very disappointed with that. Anyway, that's my opinion on that.
The AI feels very "beta" Mob's will only attack whoever is closest, and there is no aggro when attacking. So Wizards are free to do whatever they want with no fear of being attacked when they are with a Warrior. This is coming from someone who currently plays a Wizard too. This is bad and I really hope this is a WIP and Jamie intends to improve this.
Wizards (at least at the lowers levels. I am currently lvl 17) feel very weak and under powered. My Warrior buddy is doing average 40-60 damage per hit, and my Thunderbolt does between 8 and 20 damage. Pretty bad. We are both using average vendor gear.
While I am glad to see the Gameshop items are not locked away to only people who donate, I still think there is too much "pay 2 win" emphasis in this server. All the highest levels have like 15+ buffs to literally every stat. While a Gameshop is good to help Jamie fund his time and effort, I think that the items available will be detrimental to the longevity of the server.
That's all I got so far. A lot of the new features are brilliant. The UI is great and the spectator mode is an amazing feature. A lot of people who never see the high end dungeons can now see them.
Changes I would like to see mainly are:
Mob AI similar to Mir2.
Idle sounds for mobs (greatly helps when hunting bosses)
Dungeon's that actually look unique instead of them all looking the same.
Wizards damage increased a little (just for sub lvl 20)
Other than that, I am enjoying the server, even though lvling is very difficult (not a bad thing)
