Yes you do as its your feedback not someone else's.

So for people like my self who like to use the name of their character more then once instead of using a insignificant variation is a game breaker?... If I'm honest have names like Jamíe, Jámie, Jamié, Jamie1 is more of a game breaker then just having Jamie 4 times.

I'll repeat and this is the last time I'll respond specific topic unless there is a post that has been well constructed. Your not forced to use the same name, Your just allowed to, If you don't like that just make another character on a new account where you cannot use the same name... It effects no one other then the person who wants to use their name.

If you havn't noticed already Jamie, the people telling you it's a bad idea are the people who have played Mir from day 1 (No, not just euro, private servers aswell).

Accents haven't been allowed since what, 1.2? Furthermore I rarely ever see anyone using the same name for all their chars but with a different number at the end. Those that do are simply unimaginative and lazy. That's their problem. Evidently you are one of those people, hence why you are catering to such a small minority in a way which will affect the majority. Those of you who say it won't affect anyone who chooses not to use it are quite simply dimwits and ignorant.

From running servers myself I have learnt what kind of things do and don't piss off the majority of players. Just because a few new comers who we've never heard of come here and say 'ya its a good idea' doesn't mean it is, and doesn't mean that the majority will like it once it's in play. You can either listen to people who know what they're on about or those that don't.

And yes, this is a very small topic for such a big debate, but it's the little things that count, and they all add up in the end.

What's Unfair about this situation:

It will affect PVP/PK (all someone has to do is strip off their items/change them and oh look it could be any class and level! OR 'I wonder if that's a noob Jamie mining, I'd like to pk him but it could be his uber high lvl wiz that's going to 1 hit me if I attack. WHO KNOWS?')
Firstly You won't be able to identify what level anyone on any server is if they are naked, If they are naked what good is knowing their class, If you were to be killed in by someone is naked how the hell do you intend to PK anyone in the first place.

Was it unfair that the person mining had a high level character? No.
Was it unfair that the PKer knew the person had/is a high level? No.
Was it unfair that the PKer was unsure what the strength of the opponent was? No.

I cannot see anything "Unfair" or anything that will effect PK in the slightest so please enlighten me, You can't class this as true pvp as someone is naked which was the whole point of his argument.

Next:
It takes away from the RPG aspect of the game
It takes away the RPG element no more then having Maps/Mobs/Items with the same name. Are you sure you don't want to include using the name more then once across different servers, Surely that is an infringement of the RPG element also?. The fact that you make a DIFFERENT character means that its separate from the original character there is no confusion about who it is as its the same person.

Its a waste of no one's time, I fail to see how "It's silly" is any sort of usable feedback, "It's confusing"... if that's the case then there is no hope for you as its less confusing then using different names.

having same names for all characters has no effect on the game, either positive or negative.

mining? **** off. as if thats going to unbalance anything?

If jamie wants to add it fine, seems pointless, but its not a negative.

If you know someone's CHARACTER NAME (i.e. a name unique to that character!), have heard of them, have seen them in town in their kit, whatever, you can know they're high level. If there's 2/3/4 characters running round with the same name, you don't know whether that character itself is the high level you heard about in guild or just a noob tao.

The fact you've already stated that you don't think that's an issue, because "either way you're going to get pk'd back" is not only utterly IRRELEVANT but a complete contradiction in terms.

Was it unfair that the PKer thought the character mining was a noob because 2 hours prior he'd seen said character running around Ginko Tree killing RakingCats, but turned out to be a level 50 warrior because all his chars have the same name? YES. That is not a part of Mir.

Maps/Mobs/Items have absolutely nothing to do with it. Characters are key to an rpg...

When are people ever naked?
Characters have to be on the same account, therefore it is the same person??
It is literally such a small issue its not worth talking about?

Nothing wrong with the idea and i would use the same name for all my characters, i only ever level one character the rest would be storage, don't see why some of you see a problem with this.

Every person who creates a server, wether it be from source code or the available files. Everyone has the right to have there have their own ideas implemented in to such a server, so yes please continue with the constructive criticism to aid Jamie in his development. But please stop with the utter "crap" I have read over the last few pages, if it continues. Those of you who have been warned will receive more stringent infractions.

Now please be good.......

i like this idea but only if the level displayed shows a range.. like if you are level 50 to 59 it will display level 50.. not that i personally don't like the others to know my level but i know a few people that don't like telling thier levels out..

also is there any nice update to post JamieM?

and last but not least, is there any chance to have an eta yet?

Well if I was an artist I could draw the shape that the project is in, I mean I can see it clearly in my mind but that's no good being there as you can't see it...

I am not one for words so I cannot explanation won't be very accurate at this stage.

All is still going good and going strong, Currently I have been doing the server in individual sections, Mob AI, Network, Engine Controls, Data Management etc etc etc.

I am finishing the last few sections off and then I will reconnect the two once that's done Everything should be working except for NPCs and Spells (Two things that are separate and easy to add).

I have been thinking of some new skills, for this example I'll turn to the skill: fireball (Fireball won't function like this.. well maybe we will see). It's movement speed depends on the level of the skill, it flies in the direction you fire won't stop until it hits a player / wall within the distance, so rather then locking on to a player or mob, you fire it in the direction you want to aim, Spell level could effect the distance the speed additional effects such as when a successful hit Firebang happens, or other random effects.

This is just an Idea which will be extremely easy to add.

Would be funny to see a group of 10 wizards in a line all firing Fireball in the same direction... Flanking people in sabuk wall and stuff

Anyway.

On topic, Its going well I can't give an ETA at this stage.

Constructive Feedback on the Idea posted is most welcome.

lol thats an awsome idea, bring abit more 'tact' into fighting and hunting then.

would you be able to make things such as tbolt and similar spells more artilery like, so the further away the spell the more likly it is to miss and hit an ajacent space,

would be cool if that spell extended across the whole map, and didnt end after a while. be cool standing on a map and having random fireballs flying past you :P

LOL.. i was thinking about the scene.. walking around bichon and having fireballs passing through.. omg.. what the hell?? it could be nice.. i think any idea is good at this point.. it will always need testing ingame to see if it unbalances game or causes some particular issues.. for example in boss hunting it could be a problem if from very far away you get the hit.. there is the risk to boss steal maybe.. no?

You are correct, LN was a Legit player, I was the Big Sploiter and with SHANE2 had some great fun :p..

That being said, I know how to fix loopholes / stop them from ever existing on my server.

In response no Nymph, only thing I was thinking was having a household with 3 mir players, one whom codes/runs a server usually leads to the other two taking advantage ie looking at drops or @making stuff while Jamies in the bog.

You prob knew me on phoenix, and we did run into each other on FH quite a bit.. give you a clue, I had a 45 wiz/42 war on Pheo.
