On topic: I'm not 100% sure about the name thing. Will have to see how it goes down, i know there woun't be any trouble from a code point of view (I have faith!), but Mir players arn't usually a massive fan of change. I think it'll be fine either way, but then i'm not the community :P

lol im not trying to bring back up any of the flame but I still see the name ordeal pretty pointless. It doesnt cause anything bad.. and wont confuse anyone. I do like iJam's idea of displaying the level on Ctrl+ Right click. The guild thing im not a masssive fan of. Spys have always been part of the game, would be pretty sad if it got taken away.

Love the idea of the whole fireball doesnt stop until it hits, but I think it should fade out after extensive distance could be silly if it travels from one side of bw to the other :))

overall, im liking most of your ideas. Sorry you have to put up with some peoples comments. They might be putting forward there points, but it seems they are trying to turn their own opinions into false facts..

does any1 stil play woool omen? was readin the thread the other day and couldnt figure out whether it was open or closed or dead, so didnt download it

soz mate, didnt see this before.. they released a new version of the game and it had at least 10 players on which was quite decent for woool to be fair =P let me know if your gna give it ago. The old version doesnt have anyone playing I dont think.. Logged on at the weekend with my brother and we were the only players.

Well I have been talking it over with the File guy, and basically we come up with first 1 - 5 levels increases the speed it moves/ distance, the next 1 - 5 levels increases the power, last level (10th ) will add something like I dunno an element, or random effect.

But you get the idea I hope, Some other skill changes are planned some you'll love but not prepared to release these ideas.

10 levels with spells o.O this could be interesting!! on diablo, when you level up you got something called a 'Spell Point' or something close to that naming. Maybe if incorporated into mir, every level could be used to upgrade a spell...

soo you learn fireball at level 7...

when you level up to 8, you could use your spell point getting Fireball to level 2, or you could save your points for when you learnt other spells.. This would add more customization for the players and you would see a different range of spells used in fights to be honest..

The only problem I see with the neverending Fireball is that it will maybe hit someone on the other side of the map or hitting something off screen. :P How about having it fade out over time?

Also not really a fan of unequal spell leveling. Wouldn't it be better if you got speed/distance/power every time you leveled up? Rather then the 5 speed/dist, and then 5 power you suggested?

But anyway, I was thinking about sub-classes. You could select a class and then learn skills from using a combination of book+skill trees. If you've ever played any of the mmos (or Torchlight or Borderlands) then a skill/ability tree might be a nice addition.

For example, Wizards could have like Destroyer, Support or Necromancer roles. Specialising in destroyer abilities make their spells slower, but much stronger. Support could result in them getting more HP, spells costing less MP, and shield being stronger. But as a consequence they won't be as strong as a Destroyer and much more suited for surviving and dungeon hunts. Then for Necromancer, it's more or less for someone who likes pets, they could summon monsters from the dead corpses and get to lay magical traps (just think, setting a trap at Sabuk Gate, only to bind/explode whoever steps on it :P).

That also gets me thinking about advanced pet control... like being able to highlight a mob press a button and for pets to attack that monster only... Or possibly clicking on a pet (in the case of multiples), then assigning targets. I suppose a lot like RTS like Command and Conquer. But that might be a bit overkill.

Thing is though, what semi-intelligent spy makes their spy character on the same account as their main?

Every person who creates a server, wether it be from source code or the available files. Everyone has the right to have there have their own ideas implemented in to such a server, so yes please continue with the constructive criticism to aid Jamie in his development. But please stop with the utter "crap" I have read over the last few pages, if it continues. Those of you who have been warned will receive more stringent infractions.

Well if I was an artist I could draw the shape that the project is in, I mean I can see it clearly in my mind but that's no good being there as you can't see it...

I am not one for words so I cannot explanation won't be very accurate at this stage.

All is still going good and going strong, Currently I have been doing the server in individual sections, Mob AI, Network, Engine Controls, Data Management etc etc etc.

I am finishing the last few sections off and then I will reconnect the two once that's done Everything should be working except for NPCs and Spells (Two things that are separate and easy to add).


[IDEA]
I have been thinking of some new skills, for this example I'll turn to the skill: fireball (Fireball won't function like this.. well maybe we will see). It's movement speed depends on the level of the skill, it flies in the direction you fire won't stop until it hits a player / wall within the distance, so rather then locking on to a player or mob, you fire it in the direction you want to aim, Spell level could effect the distance the speed additional effects such as when a successful hit Firebang happens, or other random effects.

This is just an Idea which will be extremely easy to add.

Would be funny to see a group of 10 wizards in a line all firing Fireball in the same direction... Flanking people in sabuk wall and stuff

Anyway.

On topic, Its going well I can't give an ETA at this stage.

Constructive Feedback on the Idea posted is most welcome.

One thing I don't like about your idea is the line magic thing... That's what spells like Lightning/Hellfire are for. It (albeit arguably) takes more skill to keep mob(s) in line than to just attack from anywhere therefore these spells do more damage. Fireball etc. are what are called "nuke" target spells, I don't like the idea of changing that to line of sight (LOS) magics.

Is that actually what you intend on doing or have I misunderstood?

i dont think he was gonna do it for all spells. was just an idea for a new spell.
