In Orbit around Uranus
UrbanFox et al,

I have noticed, after being away from the world of mir for quite a while, that a few posts have been unanswered but not locked or deleted.

So, in an attempt to solve a few, seemingly unanswered queries, in "unlocked" topics, I have offered advice or/and asked for further information.

Does this warrant a verbal warning? If there is a rule for LOMCN that states, "You must NEVER reply to an open topic to extent an offer of help to a fellow member", then I am guilty and I apologise.

If the CN in LOMCN does actually stand for Community Network, then surely my actions should be deemed within the acceptable realms of community behaviour.

How can any community survive without people asking for help and others offering it?

You, yourself, must hold extremely anti-community ethics if I am to receive warnings and/or punishment merely for extending my hand in friendship.

Have I wrong you on a personal level? I don't even know who you are, apart from an admin/mod of LOMCN.

Why was I warned for offering help, when the members in these threads have been hurling spam and flames at each other? Did I spam? Did I flame?

It seems that people who start new threads to ask for an file to be found 1 thread up get told to search. I offer help and get told to stop.

So, my questions to UrbanFox and the rest of LOMCN admin is this. Am I to be facing a ban for offering any more help? and Will I receive a verbal warning for replying in open forums?

Surely it makes sense to "lock" a topic if you don't want people to post in it, for as a member I have no means of unlocking a closed forum.

So now it is in the hands of ALL admin. Feel free to ban me for asking where I have gone wrong. Feel free to answer me also, I'd prefer that.

***I have NOT wrote this letter for ANYONE to flame, bad mouth or otherwise disrespect UrbanFox or any of the Admin team.

Edit: The thread is at http://www.lomcn.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=10379. I edited this thread to save any future warnings for double posting, bumping etc., since edited posts do not add to post count nor bump a topic.

Edit2: Apologies to UrbanFox, Admin and members of LOMCN past, present and future. I have just noticed the date of the original post. Jan 04, I misread it as Jan 05. But in this case, with the post being over 1 year old, should it not have been taken off? Hense, not my fault.

It depends on how old the threads are. Obviously if you're going through threads that are from months and months ago and then posting in them, bumping them, then yes, you should be warned as necro-posting is irritating and most likely if the person really needed an answer they would bump their own thread. Perhaps providing links to said threads would give us GOT-whores a better picture of the situation cause lets face it, we don't leave the GOT area unless there's some sort of important announcement.

Urban is one of the best mods LOMCN has had and I doubt he'd warn you for simply offering help.

EDIT: As for the spamming/flaming, GOT has been declared a spam-fest anyway, hence why post counts aren't increased in this area.

You made a mistake, fair play, but you gotta deal with the punishments. I gotta agree with HC, that even though he's not perfect in his judgements, Urban is a *most of the time* pretty fair and good mod.

End of the day you got what you deserved, whether it was your fault or not. End of, Move on. I'm sure you'll get over the warning. If not call FRANK, I s'pose.
