Since I have begun to play this version of Mir my laptop gets exceedingly hot while playing.
I have played other Mirs, one not a million miles away but I will not name it so I am not advertising, and throughout several years this laptop remained cool.
From the first day playing here it is just uncomfortable touching the keypad. Yes I do have a fan under the laptop which appears not to do much at all despite being a large size.

Why does this game alone cause this and what can I do? No I do not want to not play it.
I am thoroughly enjoying this server and wish to continue but the overheating is obviously a major concern and quite off putting even more so in our present heat wave!

How old is ur laptop?
Is it full of dust?

Last resort:
Play 1 hour, put it in freezer for 1 hour.

Where about is the heat coming from? The vents or the laptop in general. If its just coming from the vents then don't worry about the heat as that's normal.

Also if its built with gaming specs expect it to get hot anyway as that will just be the GPU. If your concerned that much then get some temperature monitoring software that alerts you if it's too hot. You will be surprised how hot it will allow your laptop to get before it gets to a critical stage.

Another thing to concider especially in the recent heat it the surface that the laptop is on. Is it in your bed or your lap? If so then your restricting the air flow. If I'm using a laptop i tend to get a big book or folder so its on a flat surface.

Hope this helps :)

not much you can do about a laptop getting hot from gaming,
There not build for games is the bottom line.
(unless you buy a expensive gaming specific one, that is packed full of fans, and battery only lasts 1-2hours, so it need to be plugged in all the time, witch technically makes it a compact desktop pc)

Only thing you can really do is get a bigger/better docking fan (this hot weather wont be helping)
Otherwise buy a desktop pc to play games on.

The weather at the moment isn't helping with your laptop getting warm.

I have a cooling pad thing for mine, it helps a bit.

stand it on a cake cooling rack(home/bakeware section most department stores) on a tray so air can circulate around it. As someone said above if its on a soft surface it will heat very fast if its on a hard flat surface like table or book it will still heat but slower. Just make sure air can get underneath/all around.

If its getting above 62c with cooling assistance(extra fans, ect ect), i would consider not using it for games atall or you could do permanent damage.

Try to get a cooling pad that pluggs into a wall or somthing, usb cooling pads are good, but they drain the much needed power from your laptop causing heat and strain

A tip aswell
remove your battery and use with only the power cable plugged in. - will do 3 things for you.
- Mainly to stop you from ruining your batterys life (they dont like being charged while in use and you will ruin the batterys charge memory)
- removes any battery charging heat
- cooler air can get into the battery compartment

Thx for all the posts, one piece of help I have gleaned from them all is the one to take the battery out as I do only use it via a mains cable.

I did say in my post that I already have a cooling pad. I also stated that I have played another Mir server for several years and that was up til about 3 weeks ago and then I began here and the laptop never heated up while playing the previous server. But as soon as I log on here it heats up. So it is this particular game.

I have it on one of those lappy things where it has like a bean bag at the bottom then a solid top the laptop rests on. The laptop is then lifted up by the fan stand so air can easily circulate round it.
One area that a lot of heat comes from is the actual hard drive.

I will feed back on the removal of the battery.
At present the whole thing is really cool as the game is not on.

Also try playing in windowed mode (if you dont alrdy)
If im not mistaken this new engine/client is locked at 60fps and uses a different resolution? so will be more demanding then other mirs youve played

PS, the battery out might not necessarily help with the heat, but it will prolong the health of your battery

This set of files run about 300% less efficient than any I've played before. It can easily make your pc very loud lol.

So it ain't your laptop being ****, it's these files requiring more.

To be honest, I've also noticed that this particular version of mir runs my CPU like the clappers.

My fps is always 60. It's the fact that sometimes this server absolutely pans your hardware. I think it's twice that my PC has completely locked up and I've had to reset it.

My machine is fairly decent. 8gb ram, i7 cpu, 7850 gpu.

The lock ups haven't happened to me for a while.

The lock ups should mostly be fixed as they were related to bugs in the Client.

Regarding performance in general the Client does require a more powerful system, it's also unlikely for us to be able to resolve this short of coding an entirely new Client as none of us are lower level Graphic guys. So we don't know were to look in the Client code to improve performance.

Also Grimlife my laptop CPU runs 60-70c from Startup pretty much. It used to shutdown if I played a graphically intensive game (Like BF3) at 102-103c. Nowadays I have it on a cooler thing but it still averages 80-90c playing games. Awesome laptop but I do need a new one
