ram stick differences

is there any major differences between ram sticks? i want to eventually get 2gb ddr ram on my pc, but dont wanna buy a 512 stick then have to scrap it when i can afford a second 1gb stick.

there seems a varied price in sticks, but is there any main difference? and differences between makes like corsair, OCZ, kingston, samsung etc..?

There are huge differences when it comes down to technical specification, although only Quality is an issue when brand names are concerned, but really there is no difference in what brand of ram you purchase.

Ive always gone for the cheapest price i can find for ram and i havent had any problems so far.

there is difrence in speed...u cant just go out and only c 1 kind of a stick of 512 ram, there pc133,233, ect ect. but if ur doing some gaming it dont really matter, just get a 1 gig, i promise u wont even need a gig, 2 gigs if just a waste of money

Depends how many RAM slots u have... if u wonna upgrade to 1 gig ram and u have 1 ram slot, then u are going to have to take out the old RAM and put in the new 1... if u have more than 1, then u can just add more into it. also u need to no your RAM make...!!!

RAM is a *******, my computer wont accept any of the RAM that ive been given by friends so far, all it does is bleep about 8 times, then stops, as in it wont complete the P.O.S.T i dont even know why, Motherboard book says i should be using ram thats PC2100 i have no ****ing idea what that means...... but my comp honestly wont accept any of the 5 or so sticks ive tried, ****s me right off...

Farril - if you're not planning to overclock, just get the cheapest you can get.

If you are, get low-latency RAM.

Remember to ignore the PC**** markings though, and check the speed of the ram. AFAIK, PC2700 is 333mhz, and PC3200 is 400mhz.

Buy the RAM speed to match your CPU. Buy stuff rated at a higher speed, the RAM may not work. Buy stuff rated at a lower speed, and you'll get a speed cap.

Most of the time, that will happen. But it is not uncommon for ram which is running under it's rated speed to generate all mother of memory errors (Trust me on this )
