Regarding swampduck issue.

I thought some sort of Authenticator would be good... Or a public/private ssh key etc... Obviously wouldn't help in the instance where an account has been sold, but would certainly provide some additional security.

Same, I have 4 accounts, my main 2 characters are on email accounts which are locked in Hotmail's constant loop of account suspension because to unlock one I have to have access to the other which is int he same state, and for not a single one of them could I tell you what Q&A I put down, I couldn't even tell you I used my real DOB etc...this is after all a private server, why would people give out genuine details and HOPE that people they don't know running an essentially illegal server wont use them against you.

Half the time I use my dogs name and DOB rather than my own.

Its blatantly obvious in this case that the person in possession of the account isn't the original and knows they are in the wrong, otherwise they wouldn't have mocked the true owner ingame or stripped the character of its kit in expectation of being caught out.

Lets hope no one on here knows your dogs name or DOB :P.

Excellent work server team, that's who you gave the character away to. Surely this can just be sorted out and fixed so we can move on as should have been done ages ago.

Indeed, the fact you handed out all my emails to the whole server doesn't help either.

Would suggest this sytem that i implemented in a game too.

Check ip if ip not accepted messege player that his ip adres is unknown a mail has been send to your email adres verifying your ownership of the account.
Player will have to input the mailed code ingame login screen or on your website(if you're a lazy coder ) and once the code is filled ip is added to a list of the account that loggs accepted ip adresses.

This prevents people from sharing secretly to other people without the owner knowing of it and will have to ask the owner for a code to add ip to whitelist.
As on security question i'd reason to only ask their answer to the question since I have nnever written them down ever am lucky if i remember mine. but the answer once i see the question would be answered in an instant.

and tbh could you possibly make a form on the website that lets people change most account details?

Where if anything is changed the owner will be notified with the change(if it seems that an account has been hacked and info is being changed you'd have a week to respond to a gm and after it'd be deemed as an account sale)

Hey Razarus,

Take a step back and try to think of it from our point of view...

Define an "authentic" email... I can take an email from Chronicles, change the username and forward/screenshot it to as many people as I like... A person or person(s) sending us an email that they have "received" isn't a very good way of us clarifying they are the rightful owner of an account.

I offered to forward the actual email of previous password changes, the screenshot was attached for the purpose of the PM.

I can understand this tbh... and I know Follower played SwampDuck (whether that makes him the original creator of the character I don't know, but chances are he is)... With that being said, I can not prove he did or did not sell his account, all I have to go on is the accounts questions, answers and dob which he hasn't been able to provide.

To be fair, i didn't ever foresee this happening. I don't keep a log of my usernames/passwords and account info for private servers, it's over a year ago since this account was created now. You give me the question i'll provide the answer.

The account was originally mine, my brother and I both played the character once avatar was banned. Granted him a lot more than me.

Most of Apex will know that follower made that account and would vouch for it, i think you yourself Sam do too in all honesty, so i dont really see why your making him jump through hoops.
Its nice that your taking account security seriously, but this seems extreme.

No this is clearly a mess. A char was banned for cheating. The cheater was allowed to play on someone else account and now the account ownership is in dispute. I would just delete the char.
Saying all of Apex would vouch for it means nothing. They only know what one of the players told them.

The fail safe we all rely on has shown not to work, this is fundamental for the security of ALL players, we rely on the principle of the original email is gospel. Sold, traded, cheater etc etc is irrelevant.
What if someone hacked you and your account ownership was in dispute? Hacking is a threat to us all, even the server was hacked dont forget.

Staff should not, by their own rules embroil themselves in the sold chars bullsht, so all that matters is the reset request from the original email.

We should all be told whats happening with this because were all at risk. as for the recovery question, you should be told what it is, it doesnt say you wont be told the question in a dispute, anywhere when you make your account, so you better remember it! Its the answer that matters...

Maybe it was this guys account. Doesn't matter. He can't prove it and can't answer the questions. (Would make sense to tell him these questions first though).

If if the server didnt take such a mellow approach to the sale of items, characters and anything else relating to the server for real world money this would not even be a problem.

Suspect someone has bought a character ban it and email the email in its creation details. If it's answered until ban it.

Its better imho to just ban any disputed char. Obviously something dodgy went on.
If people cant remember what email they used or their security answers then thats just tough. AFter all these years learn to write it down, make a note on yr phone, take a screen shot, email yourself all teh details, take a photo of the screen. CBA? then if you get hacked(lol most hackings are shared accounts or deals n scams) then you lose your account.
ANyone who cant look after themselves on the internet should stick to consoles. Expecting the staff here to spend valuable time on people who arent well organised is annoying.
