Ok I've been searching for a solution to my router not supporting loopback and found this,

http://forum.portforward.com/YaBB.cgi?num=1221247720

If your running windows, go to C:/Windows/System32/Drivers/Etc/HOSTS and edit that file as detailed on the webpage.

Not sure if it works yet as haven't rebooted my pc as uploading files to ftp at the moment. If it work's I'll let you guys know as it would be really beneficial to server owners who don't have routers that support loopback. Fingers crossed it works :P

Meh didn't work for me. But anyone looking for a DSL Router that supports NAT Loopback, this one does apparently support it and its cheap too :)

All routers support loopback, as this is a remote management of the router.

This might actually help in understanding what loop-back is and how ti works.

Linksys and sitecom are the best routers though, linksys is the commercial router of Cisco

Not all routers support the loopback we are thinking about.
I would say a good 90% of all routers currently available support loop-back as a feature, as the firmware on the routers have management console. Which is a loop-back feature, if you pay less than £20 for a router then it possibly wouldn't have the feature but this is why Windows has loop-back as a feature.

Well... I currently have about 5-6 routers, and none of them support loopback. Surprisingly none of these routers were cheap, all priced over £60 yet none of them support loopback. The new one I just bought does support loopback and only cost me £32 so goes to show price isn't always a factor as to whether its supported or not.

That's not the loopback we want. We want a NAT Loopback where if you type in your NET IP but router is smart enough to loop the packet back to your PC.

So which one is it that you got? I am sure others may be interested.

The one I got is in the first post. It's a Netgear WGR614 Wireless G. Ok its not as fast as my D-Link wireless N but that doesnt support NAT Loopback. Got in game fine with this router as soon as I set up all port forwards and the new IP, so easy to use lol.

Like I said, 90% of routers have the NAT loop-back, as it connects to the management console on the router to enable remote management. Even D-Link, which are the standard cheap crappy routers have it.

The D-Link DIR-655 does support loop-back, as do all D-Link routers. It's just about changing the firmware on the router if the feature is not available.

As for the NetGear, just update the firmware as you would with most routers for certain features. Not everything is available out of the box.
