then you would just run it on a desktop comp with plenty of ram - its the line that causes the lag most of the time

£200 max

How do you get to that figure? You need a decent CPU and 2gb of ram and a sata hdd - i'd say £300 personally - just max out the ram and use onboard video/sound.

But like i said before, you want a nice broadband connection

[edit] the comp (image attached) would be nice to use as a server - with a little work it could be an awesome gaming rig aswell

Rent external or purchased internal? 4 Processors is a bit extreme for mir, link to spec?

Are the server files even coded to multi-thread?

I love the way people like to throw there money away

Its pointless the files are not even codded to multi-thread and not even RZ or p69 got close to using anywhere near 2gb of ram

So your server is going to be using more power the run the other 3 processors (all doing nothing) and the 4gb of ram (again doing nothing) then it will use to run the server files

Ide rather stick a pineapple up my arse than run a server on a sempron.. Its a low end CPU not ment for severs......... USE p4 for stability or Athlon for overall performance.

What do you need the graphics card for???

The mainboards on board display adapter will work fine

and down with the CPU

Sempron's are useless for server hosting, you will get mob lag and possibly flashing npc's after arround 24 hours. Also, aren't 3000+ sempron's socket 754/939 not A?

I find it doubtful that replacing a Sempron with its comparable Athlon/Pentium would see the removal of the mob lag problem where it already existed.

Give it a try some time. After you hammer the CPU for a duration for arround 24 hours the mob lag will kick in. You should also notice that even with the server stoped, the machine is noticeably slower until it's rebooted.

Depending on the mob count and number of maps, you can get away with a P4 2.0Ghz and 768mb ram running xp or 2000.
