Question 1
----------

(I have read the Idiot proof guide, it was very good, but i have some questions).

The server works offline, I can logon to it and spawn all kinds of stuff as a GameMaster.
But my PC is in a LAN, behind a Cisco Router, this means i have 2 IP's.

one internal 10.X.X.X and one external 219.x.x.x

My guest player (who connects thru the internet), Shows up on the LoginGate (1), he can enter his password, but then he gets stuck at the stone gates ( He does not show up on the SelChr Gate). The Stone gates stay closed and his attempt to logon does not show in the loggings.

What LAN (router) ports do I need to forward to my internal LAN IP (10.x.x.x)

For the gameserver config i have used the 10.x.x.x IP, not the Localhost one.

Or is this not (router)port-related ?

Question 2
----------

what does this icon stand for ?

you need to forward ports 7000 7100 7200 i think ??

the ][ means the gate is ready for connection

the ] [ means the gate is not ready normally caused by an ip issue

to forward your router ports its best to visit this site http://portforward.com/

near the bottom are the cisco routers, find your model and there are step by step instructions on how to forward your ports

also iam sure you need to put your external ip somewhere in the server files but its been a while and i cant remember where lol

ok great and fast reply, thanks, Although I have forwarded these ports

7000 7100 7200
5000 5100 5500

Looks like I need to define the External IP somewhere in the Serverfiles ?

On the forum i find links to

Client 1.4
Client 1.9

Server 1.4
Server 1.9

But in the IDiot Guide to MIR2 server, There is a Client 2.3 link ?

Can the client 2.3 connect to a 1.4 server ?

edit: I imagine the 2.3 client being more content that the 1.4 doesnt use, so basically it should be possible ?

Next problem, The idiot guide to mir 2 server hosting is missing a part ?

It explains how to import the SQLbackup (completed)
but it does not describe how to link the SQL server / mir2 DB to the mirserver (1.4) files ? help :(

(Completed) Step1 : WINxpSP2
(Completed) Step2 : installed Mir 2.3 from gamershell
(Completed) Step3 : SQL server 2000 Personal Edition + Config DB
(NOK) Step4 : Download links dont work, changed it manually, used Fernys files (Mir.exe, Mir.ini, Mirsetup.ini)
(Completed) Step5 : SQL server is running OK
(NOK) Step6: M2server.exe refuses to start, to me it looks like he cannot find the DB ? I have also made the connection throught "Control Panel" -> "Administrative Tools" - > "Data Sources(ODBC)" -> Added Mir2 - SQL server to the list.

M2server.exe tells me this
-------------------------
ready to load ini file..
!setup.txt loaded..
loading client version information..
Ok.
loading StdItem.DB...
starttimer exception...

Can someone point me in the right direction, im so close to completing this ...
Do I need to Declare SQL settings like for Mir 3 ?

(Im using the Untouched Server Files 1.4, and the database restore in SQL2000 was OK!)

...this is driving me crazy...help

Does it really need to be in C:/mirserver, or can it be changed if the inifiles are changed ?

Right,

For starters 1.4, 1.9 and 2.3 are different sets of files and clients, you can't hack and slash different pieces of each together, i.e. 2.3 Client is for use with the 2.3 Server files only.

1.4 Files - Lots of cheats around for these, not worth the trouble.

1.9 Files - Good set of files, lacking quite a few of the 2.3 features (as you'd imagine)

2.3 Files - The most commonly used set of files at the moment are TD's binary releases of the updated SVN source. They are stable, relatively easy to setup and would be my recommendation to you as a beginner. There are more advanced files around but they have some bug issues.

You can download them from this thread: http://www.lomcn.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=53383

Use mStation Idiot's Guide and you shouldn't have any problems.

Hope that helps a bit. :)

PS: Please don't double/triple post, edit your previous post if you have more information to add. Next time I'll be forced to infract you.

Ok my apologies for the double post, I was anxcious (however u spell that), to get a reply and I did double it :cray:. I spend all day setting up my server so it was getting to me a bit...

-> setup seperate PC
-> ghosted PC (restore, to clean it)
-> setup network (hub, cabling)
-> looked for SQL server 2000 and installed it
-> + read 27 forum threads and gathered bits and peices of usefull stuff...
-> + alot of fiddeling with the Mir files

Today I will try again using the 2.3 files, ALTHOUGH I get virus alerts from server files other than the untouched 1.4 set, There are statements on the forum that this is because "it is the way the mirserverfiles work", but I doubt this very much...

That is why im setting up a seperate backuped PC just for mir...

hell23.servegame.com/Mirserver/Mirserver.rar\Mirserver\LoginGate\LoginGate.exe
Malware name: Win32:Trojan-gen {Other}
Malware type: Virus/Worm

Same Virus alert for all the other EXE files in the rar file...

DecoItem loaded..
Loading Guild Territorys...
Loading Monster.DB...
Monster.DB loaded(502).
Loading Magic.DB...
Magic.DB loaded(55).
Loading MonGen.txt...
MonGen.txt loaded(255).
Loading GenMsg.txt...
GenMsg.txt loaded(6).
Loading UnbindList.txt...
UnbindList information loaded.
Loading BindList.txt...
BindList information loaded.
Loading MapQuest.txt...
MapQuest.txt : Failure was occurred while reading this file.Code= -14

Looks easy to fix, question is , where do I need to go looking

EDIT: deleted the Ghoul Quests, now it passes the error

The files are safe, trust me, if they wern't they wouldn't be hosted on this site. Just add them to your exception list.

the 7 server programs launch correctly now, the game starts (do i use mir2.exe or mir.exe).

Next issue:

LoginGate tells me
-----------------
[12:57:32] Service started...
[12:57:32] Socket Opened...
[12:59:37] Timed out/Blocked: 10.x.x.x
[13:01:03] Timed out/Blocked: 10.x.x.x

Edit: Noticed this Timed out IP is the IP that is set in the server.ini (client) file
So It's the client that cannot make the connection to the LoginGate somehow, help :(

You need mir2.exe

Make sure your using RunGate, not GameGate, alos that happens if someone is taking to long to make an account/login.

Hope that helps.

Please start using the Search function, all of the questions you have asked in this thread have been asked before. If i find an awnser to the next question using a simple search i'll have to infract you.
