Just 'cause under the hood is the same doesn't make them same cars.

For example I heard Saxo's are infamous for their brakes.

They have the same engine, they are same car.

kud is correct.

ok. a 2.0d volvo s40 has the same engine as a 2.0d ford mondeo

they the same car? far from it pal

cos 2 cars are based off the same engine doesnt make them the same car, a 1.1 saxo is faster 0-60 then a 1.1 106, got different suspension and everything, the gearboxes are different and all sorts.

the 106 is alot more reliable and is better all round for wear n tear, saxos are slung together.

you'll find a 106 is more like the old clio then it is a saxo.

dont try n say "same engine" bollox its all a load of ****e go try and fit a 106 engine into a saxo, or fit a saxo engine into a 106

i can guarentee u wont be able to.

now run along and learn your stuffs before posting friend, chow

edit:
1.1 saxo - http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/Detail.aspx?deriv=11715
1.1 106 - http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/Detail.aspx?deriv=11874

saxo does 0-60 2.5 seconds quicker, thats alot of difference for the same engine?? in a similar sized car with a similar shape and weight?

Your wrong. You can fit any Saxo engine into a 106 (1.1/VTR/VTS etc) and vice versa.

I had a 106 GTi engine in my VTR, its the same engine as a VTS.

But you can...it's been done many many many times.
In fact you can even go crazy and with a bit of work put the 1.6 16v out of a saxo VTS into a 1.1 106 if you really wanted to.

If i remember correctly, nearly all of the engines are the same, except the 106 Rallye used different cams from a Saxo VTR, all the gearboxes are also interchangeable if my memory serves me well.

The only difference between saxos and 106's are the body panels, interior and few bits of the chassis (for the body panels).

But back on topic: maybe a nice mk4 fiesta, make sure it hasn't been faffed around with, all mechanically sound, decent first cars.

Iirc its just the differences in gearboxes, but yeah all the gearboxes are interchangeable too. I'd steer away from both types of cars anyway.

I spent a fortune on my VTR and it was always dying but I was lucky enough to get a decent price back when I sold it.
