Giving someone a free gift can easily result in getting something in return. Even if its something as simple as gratitude

Let's run through this, step by step.

You wish to enter an area. You are charged £750 to do so.

You claim this is a 'donation'.

I have given the definition of a donation, an act which is done of free will. Free being excempt from the will of others, in this case, the guy charging you £750.

Free Will /= paying £750 because you are told to.

perhaps you should start thinking outside your little box and stop using dictionaries that predate the first world war.

nobody was told to pay anything. they gave £750 (if that is even true) to charity, and in return recieved special treatment.

in the same way I could give somebody a present in a direct attempt to gain their gratitude/the satisfaction of them being happy

I think you've missed the whole point of my posts.

Hi I'm just back from Live 8 and it was the best thing I have ever been to in my life! The only thing that really annoyed me was the Barrier at the front the only way to get in was if you paid up to £750 extra which was ironic as it was stated that Live 8 wasn't about getting money.

Your examples are flawed, in that you willingly give the gift, you are not forced to. If you don't understand the bold text, go see your teacher.

And nobody had to ****ing do that, did they? They could have stayed with the rest BUT they chose to pay extra.

get over it

you seem to think that everyone in the golden circle was forced into paying £750.

guess what?

you are wrong!

Now are you quite done persuing this ****ty argument in which there are no winners, only 2 stubborn *******s

I never said that.

Infact, what you've just said further re-enforces my point...

No it doesnt :tard:.

So they got money out of it, but **** off who cares. Not only is It for a good cause but it was volentary. The concert was not about money, it was about making a statement. Giving the WINNERS the CHOICE of paying to be a bit closer to the bands, and then donating the money to charity is hardly corrupt, is it? The whole point was to let people willing to give alot to charity have a little bit extra. seems fair to me. It doesnt exactly change the whole idea of the concert.

Live 8 is a joke anyways, eradicating poverty, in macro-economic terms, is impossible.

And it does not seem fair to me. That simple. The whole point of giving the tickets away for free was so that the rich would not get better than the poor.

They broke their own ethic, and you cannot deny that.

In some respects.

Anyone could be there, just a matter of luck really. The idea of the circle was indeed to raise money, but only winners could get into there anyway, so the rich werent taking up any valuable concert space which could have been used on extra tickets, as they had to win in the first place.
and believe me, you do not want to be stuck at the front of a one day concert anyway. its hell on earth, and i speak from experience. you pretty much have to stand for 15 hours straight amidst a bunch of topless, sweaty, fat, balding men. Being at the front of festivals is grossly overrated

Since when has anyone been unaware that there is poverty in Africa? People who didn't know are unlikely to be able to help anyways. The disgusting, shameful fact is that the super powers will always screw lesser countries, and whilst wearing a smile pretend to help through aid, but all the time slowly turn the screw...

If eradicating, or finding an ultimate solution is impossible, what's the point of awareness anyways? It was a nice gesture, but an extremely naive one.

Thats exactly what theyre raising awareness of. The fact that the superpowers have the power to make a difference but dont since they are corrupt. You pretty much outlined the whole idea of the concert in that first paragraph.

But the superpowers will never help. Even if they are fully aware, and have expierienced it themselves. Never never never, that's why it's impossible. So what's the point? FEEL GOOD FACTORS.

The point is Pink Floyd got back together, who cares about the rest.
