Well, I finally did it.
I'm giving up ALL online gaming in pursuit of helping out Private Mir Servers, it's my calling so it seems. Can't get the enjoyment out of any other games including Euro Mir.

So I decided I would take a plunge into my unknown world of Map Making.

Now I've drawn up plans for unique style of map. It's a hunting map more than a levelling but I'm not the one putting the mobs in. I'd need some help with that.

What I need from you guys is an idea of map Sizes.

Telling me 350x350 is big, I can only think of pixel sizes (being a website designer). So, in relation, can you tell me what size each of these are

WoomaTemple Floor 1
Wooma KR (WT)
PranjaTemple Floor 2
PranjaTemple KR (MTK)
PastBichon

Cheers for any help guys

Regards, and I'll keep you posted. If this one is okay I'll start doing some specific levelling areas

I've been here for a while now :) The community here is +++ better than Official mir. To be honest, they suck. At least the game is Provided for and staffed here.

I want to create my own server eventually, brand new maps, new(ish) mobs a whole different playing enviroment. I would play P69 but tbh, i think it really sucks balls.

I'm happy on the sidelines though, as long as I can create i'll be just fine. Me and my guitar will pwn the world >:)

If you open these maps in MapEditor, move your mouse pointer to the bottom right corner of the map it will give you the full size of the map on the bar above the map.

Wooma KR map is 99:99

I'll leave the rest for you. :D

If you've stopped playing games to make mir maps , you've made a big mistake....

But good luck to you.

Not just Mir Maps. And besides who are you to tell me if I've made a mistake or not?

Well if you are going to take up map making seriously, then you are going to have to do some research.. Find out what the latest map making applications are and what functions do what etc.. I won't mind helping a keen individual like you on the way forward to creating new maps. So if you have any questions, just add me to msn which I have sent you through private messaging.
I hope all this supportive reintroduction into the private server scene has inspired you to stay, and put some hard working effort into the development of community, be it what ever section are foreseen to be in.

Thanks again for the support! always nice to recieve a warm welcome :)

The only major drama I'm having with these tiles, is getting the ones you can't see joined up (the ones facing) away. Either the tiles are missing?(?) or I can't get them joined in the same hex square.

infuriating. Made 2 maps so far. A Basic Challenge style Map, similar to Euro Mir but bigger and styled like ZumaTemple.

I also created an NPC for this which spawns mobs in a few locations within the map aswell as a single boss.
It's a solo map only.
Was thinking of making a Group map, but not really sure what the Private Mir community is like when it comes to grouping. I'm very much a solo player.

Nice to see your getting along well, i too enjoy making maps - if you want your maps to be used you can either release them to LOMCN, or maybe find a server where you can get something out of them using your work. :agree:

I'll probably realease them to LOMCN. Maybe once a week or so? Not quite sure yet. At the moment, I'm still getting into the flow of how everything works, exploring different tiles and how I can use them. I'm also learning NPC scripts both 1.4 and 1.9 - It will probably be a couple of weeks before I release anything, just testing myself at the moment.
Level of detail it easy, it's walls that still annoy me.

I have a chinese version of MapEdit which works wonderfully and seems to be geniunely quicker than English Map Edit. The only problem is I don't know what every function is.

The problem I have found with the Richens Map Making Guide is both the MapEdit files don't work properly.
For instance:
1) I can't erase anything, single or large tiles unless I use CTRL+Z
2) I can't use separate TileSets (Can't select a different tile (doing black around edge of map) just defaults to sand)
3) Plus a few more...

Basically the second one negates the use of Map Edit entirely. I'm sure other people don't have this problem or it would have been posted already.

Chinese Map Edit at www.HH8.net (also the place for something famous in mir ;) )

These problems can easily be over come if you truley want to make maps, its akward when you cant delete selected things but it doesn't mean you can't create maps - simply pay more attetion and everytime you add something make sure its correct. Also save your work to a different name every 5minutes or so, so if you make a huge mistake you can't erase you always have a back up.
Your second problem is because theres 2 sets to choose from in the drop down menu, of single tiles i mean - One called Tile which will fill certain areas and certain patchs and the other is TileDetail which also you to slect individual tiles to create whatever floor you want.

:D
