Taming Thread?

Can anybody verify what's the status of this?

I am level 29 and I can't tame tongues, black maggots, or oma warriors. I can successfully tame Oma fighters, but everything else is impossible.

Is anybody else able to tame things? I have seen people with pets like black maggots, but unsure of that players level, etc.


Have found people my level also that can tame things, but I cannot. Could it be something to do with leveling up via Jack'O'Lanterns as opposed to them leveling up prior to Jacks?


any info/help would be appreciated... I love pets

edit; also worth mentioning (I think) is that - I CAN repulse Oma Warriors... Just not tame.

Another edit:

I can tame Centipedes (level 24) at 29.

I can also tame Giant Keratoid (level 25) at 29.

I cannot tame black maggots / OW (level 26) or tongs (29) at 29.

So perhaps at 30 or 31 I will be able to do Maggots / OW... I am posting this just as a mini-reference for any other newby wizards interested in knowing some levels... and hopefully so admins can tune this differently, as pets are not massively useful - but dramatically less useful if they are 4 levels ahead of what they should be.

I will have a look at this today, we changed the code from -2 to +2 levels, but according to your info its +4. If this is the case, we will make sure to change accordingly. thank you

I tamed black mags at 29, took an age to actually tame though... first one took 5 large MP's!

Just sat and tried for 10 MP pots worth of taming and still didn't get one. Perhaps it is a player specific issue?

Just to confirm fully; got to level 30 and now have 5 oma warriors, tamed very fast. So aye... It is definitely +4. If people are somehow able to tame things at the 'correct' level then feel free to post here and prove it's a player issue, otherwise as boss man said, its set to +4 rather than +2.

On euro you could tame anything that wasnt undead and was 2 levels lower - can GM please clarify if this is the same here?

From what I can tell this doesnt apply here, for example I should be able to tame the mobs in the critter cave but I cant seem to (They are not undead and I've been able to repulse them atleast 4 levels)

Also easy way to tell was if the mob turned red from eshock only then you could tame it. (Again dont know if this applies here)

Also on the Crystal base set, the mob is more likley to tame if the HP is lower.

Another question - when pets level to 7 they barley seem to be any stronger and they are definatley not any faster at walking or attacking. (Level 7 black maggots hit JackOLanterns for 3-8 dmg lol, takes a group of 5 ages to kill one -_- which is quite poor considering they have like 116hp lol)

Can we please get some clarifacation on this.. When I was level 36 I spent half an hour trying to take a red frog and it didn't even turn red.. I thought they should be 33 to tame??? Didn't bother trying yellows (Should be 36).

Perhaps I'm just unlucky lol

Can GM please give some clarity on this? Surely we don't need to be level 29 to take level 24 mobs lol.. given up trying to take things I should be able too.. not seems any other wiz with decent pets
