So I decided to do some testing and maths on the materials for the new crafted item sets and thought I'd share my findings.
I'm going to use Red/Black Threads as an example since they're common to all the crafted items.
You need 2,550 of each thread to get 1 set piece to Tier 8. Therefore you need 17,850 of each thread to get your full 7 item best in slot set.
My farming technique was FlameFielding ST maze, I was able to gather 10 Red Threads and 9 Black Threads in 1 hour of farming, but for simplicity's sake let's say I got 10 of each.
Now for the maths...
17,850/10 = 1,785 (Total needed divided by the amount I can farm in 1 hour to find amount of hours needed to obtain 17,850 of each thread.)
1,785/4 = 446.25 (Total hours needed divided by 4 hours of farming for mats per day to give the amount of days of farming)
446.25*2.5 = 1,115.65 (446.25 days for 2 of the mats and you need 5 different mats so just times that by 2.5 instead of dividing it down just for simplicity's sake. I've made an assumption about the average rate I can gather the other materials also being 10 per hour**).
1,115.65/365 = 3 Years 18.25 Days to craft the full Tier 8 best in slot set which is comparable to the lvl44 fox items dropped by GFS.
**This assumes that more sources of WhiteThreads will be added as currently they only drop from WhiteEvilBoar and WhiteFoxMan. The only other way to get these is to craft them. For this you would need 178,500 SpiderWebs (10 SpiderWeb = 1 WhiteThread). Even assuming you can farm SpiderWebs at double the rate of the other materials this would take 6 Years & 40 Days to gather enough to craft all the necessary WhiteThreads.
So in conclusion, if there's no new higher level content/items planned within the next 5 years then you're best off to start grinding 4 hours a day for the mats for this gear now, however if there is going to be new content and higher level items before then, I wouldn't bother crafting this beyond the first tier to get the set bonus on an alt to help it level because by the time you've finished it, you'll be high enough for whatever new gear is out anyway.
I really like the item tier system, I do, but the costs for these simply make them unrealistic and that makes me sad because I would enjoy having a measurable goal to reach to be able to upgrade the items if it was achievable.
