I've done around 18 lessons with the AA and after that decided to stop but i have the 10 intense lessons booked with BSM this week and next which guarantee a 99% chance of passing, just wanted a run down of the two tests before the practical.

I've been told the provide all the books etc but id like a first time pass. Alot of people told me the Theory is common sense which makes sense but the Hazard Perception im unsure of.

I took a Theory test before looking at any books/cds and scored a 26/35 but the pass mark is 30/35.

Any one got some nice sites/test sites i can check out before i start. My first lesson is Wednesday and then friday. My practical will be next week wednesday so my theory inbetween tomorrow and a week tomorrow.

Kinda set me back £360 odd so i'd like to pass lol.

Thanks.

I had one of them CDs, and I was scoring really low. The questions they ask in the actual theory are so much easier.

The hazard, you just have to click early when you see them. There's only a maximum of 2 per clip (most are just 1 though), and it's probably best to click twice when you see them (you get 5 points for seeing it early, then 4, 3, 2, 1, depending how long after the first sighting you click, and obviously 0 if you miss it).

You need a total of 44 for that, so it's not too hard if you think quick.

You should've avoided going with a company such as AA and BSM, most are just in it for the money. Some of my friends have had 20-30 lessons and their instructor hasn't said anything about a test. I went for a private instructor, first of all, it's cheaper (I paid £18 compared to their £20/21 - may not seem much, but when it adds up...), and further, I was entered for the test after my 15th lesson / hour, and passed the test after my 23rd.

Obviously there's a chance they may not learn as fast as myself, or I may not have been as experienced driving when going in for my test... but I'm legally on the road, so that's saying something.

Yep the prices are high i was paying 40£ a lesson with AA but that was the 2 hour lessons. The reason im with BSM now is becuase of the guarantee pass and if i fail theory etc. they refund that money and i can try again but even with that i don't want to fail 5/6 times...

In the Hazard Percep, if you click once for the hazard you see and click again if you think there is a second but there is no second does it remove the first click or remove any points?

Also how many clips are shown for you to get the 44 points?

Thanks for the advice.

i was with the AA, my instructor was by far the best out of mine and my m8's who were learning @ the time, i passed 1st time with him where as my m8s with private tutors took 2, 4, and 5 times to pass!!

Yup a friend of mine, she has a private insructor too and has failed her practical 5 times now, but i suppose it depends on the insructor you get aswell as how well you can drive/cope with some one watching you drive for 30mins.

99% chance of success? Lol that bollocks. Im sorry but it all comes down to the driver at the end of the day, an awesome driver may fail on a small thing where a ****e driver may be able to scrape thro.

Im doing an intensive course at the mo, 5 hours of driving for 5 days is fooking draining! On my second day atm starting bout 12.15. Test is on this Friday.

Good luck tho bud

It's 99% because once you fail they refund the money for the test so you can pay it back and try again so if you keep failing i suppose you can keep re-trying with the same cash.

I've got Wednesday, friday, monday, tuesday and wednesday as my course each day consists of 2 hours driving.

Suppose its ok in one way since they provide all the books, pay for the tests and shiz for the one of payment.

says it all tbh lol

Yea lol

I have a 2 hour lesson booked today with a private instructor. Has been the best instructor I've had. Gives a free lesson prior to the test. I booked my practical test for August 3rd and he isn't here, so one of his other instructors is taking me out for a lesson before the test, in the same model car.

My old instructor said I wasn't ready for a test. This instructor said I was and I feel confident ;o I was gonna do the intensive but he said he didn't want me to waste my money ;o

EDIT: So you're doing a 10 hour intensive course, leading up to your practical, and you haven't done your theory test yet? ;o

;o I see.

There must be a lot of practical tests going in your area cos the waiting list up here is about a month and you need to pass your theory to be able to book the test ;o

With theory, I passed first time but I imagine it's different for other people.

Best way with the questions is keep doing the mock tests. You'll remember some questions and whichever sections you're doing bad on, read up on them in the highway code.

Hazard perception is pretty much common sense. If there is a potential hazard that you can see, click once. If it develops, click again. The timing of the clicks is quite important, as soon as it develops into a hazard, then click the mouse, or you could miss it. There are practise clips you can do so it'd be best to do those I imagine.

Good luck with it all :)

If there's 1 hazard and you click twice (both in the time frame) the highest counts.
If you click when there isn't a hazard, nothing is deducted. There's a limit of how many times you can click before the entire clip's score is ignored. They don't tell you how many, so just don't click too much, the most you should click is 4-6 times.

When I was practising using a CD, I often clicked BEFORE the scorer actually came into action, which is the reason I say click more than once (although not too close together).

There's a total of 15 hazards, I can't remember exactly how many clips there are, but I believe it's somewhere between 12 and 14.

Yes.
Tip: In the hazard perception click from the start of the clip to the end of the clip.
