Can someone give me a quick digest on the effect of speed on RAM prices. I seem to find that low range RAM (say PC2100) is far more expensive than PC3200.

Common sense would tell me that, perhaps the former isn't being produced in the mainstream because of the faster and more efficient latter.

---

Also for a friend; he's willing to spend around $70 for a low-range graphics card that will get him through with starting and playing games such as CoD2 and BF2 (not Vietnam). Any suggestions would also be welcome - he's thinking of a low-end FX5200 at the moment.

Thanks!

The Fx5200 is such a peice of **** it's not even funny, don't dare buy that card.

70 USD or 70 pounds.

If you find ram under PC3200 speeds to be more expensive than DDR400 it's for reasons like you mentioned and etc, nothing that would get you to buy any.

Geforce 9800se costs around 70 dollars. I'm quite unsure on the prices, but well it runs GTA San andreas on med'ish settings quite well.

Alright, thanks for the replies all of you and sorry for my late reply.

Urban - 70USB ($) - (or perhaps £65)

Veora - Ty for the input, I'll check that website out.

Ragnar - Sounds good, anyone want to second that card?

As we're on the topic of graphics cards (Sorry for taking your thread Turin), my mate is looking for an AGP 128MB for less than £30 (is that even possible :P), any recommendations?

Turin The nVidia 6600 is a great card. You may also want to look at ATI's x700/x700 PRO.

While on the topic of Graphics cards, are they easy to fit? I'm currently using an onboard 64mb graphics card and wouldn't mind an upgrade, but if its alot of hassle i won't bother.

Just as easy as replacing a stick of RAM.

It is, yes.

Guessing from that post you wanted AGP (don't think you stated).

There are some x700 alternatives but as urban said the 6600 is best in it's price range just go with that :P.

Ya see i don't know how to do either >.<! I'm also looking into purchasing more RAM as well, is it best to buy 2x512mb sticks or a full 1gb (looking for around 1gb or more)?

2x512MB is better, as if there's one stick that wears/is slow in the first place will slow down drastically, but with dual there's less chance (or something like that - 2x512MB is better anyway :P).
