jesus blam, you get out of one warning, and walk right into another... :P

mir works fine under vmware i believe, else i've read in the past about wine support being ok, and wine has developed much sinse then - its even able to run HL2/Eve/WoW etc these days - mir should be no problem

Aggresion
The latest version of Ubuntu is hot.

But until Linux get's compatability with NTFS harddrives, it will remain, entirely horse manure, I have over 100gigs of media on a harddrive which I'm simply not prepared to format, and to only be allowed Read-Only access to it, is absolutely appalling. Also.. I could not get a single game to work at a decent standard with absolutely any emulator, I mean for ****s sake, it runs WoW with god damned GNOME GUI, I mean, what the hell is that all about? Also, not a single Instant Messanging company supports Linux, aMSN, kMSN, etc. etc. fail in comparison to Windows Live Messenger 8.1 BETA with LOADS more errors and that's a beta for gods sake. Just because an OS is incompatible with Spy/Ad/Mal/Gayware doesn't mean it's superior, Linux should remain for networking only until it get's decent support from decent companies.

As for Windows Vista, I thought I'd check it out in currys today before I torrented it.. needs 512MB of RAM to run, not 2GB, so.. that's wrong and also it costs £99 not £250 or whatever the hell you said. But it does take up 15gigs of harddrive space, which is awful considering my OS/Software harddrive is only 32GB. But, the GUI is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and as long as compatability with old software remains intact, I'm pretty sure it's the best OS to date.

Well no, cos Windows Media Center is windwos only. it can run MythTV tho instead :P

The latest version of Ubuntu is hot.
Indeed

"sudo apt-get install ntfs-config" fixes that. NTFS-3G fixes ntfs write access. I'm using it right now to access all my drives.
Also.. I could not get a single game to work at a decent standard with absolutely any emulator, I mean for ****s sake, it runs WoW with god damned GNOME GUI, I mean, what the hell is that all about?
I havn't tried WoW, but cedega is aparently meant to work quite well these days
Also, not a single Instant Messanging company supports Linux, aMSN, kMSN, etc. etc. fail in comparison to Windows Live Messenger 8.1 BETA with LOADS more errors and that's a beta for gods sake.
But really, what does an msn client need todo apart from send/recieve messages and possibly files/webcam ?

If your that puhsed, wine probably runs live messenger.
Just because an OS is incompatible with Spy/Ad/Mal/Gayware doesn't mean it's superior, Linux should remain for networking only until it get's decent support from decent companies.
It has decent support

Thats their minumum specs, in realtiy it consumes more than that
and also it costs £99 not £250 or whatever the hell you said.
Which eddition is that? Home basic Upgrade? (Which DOESN'T have the fancy GUI, and required a pre-installed system to upgrade. No more fresh installs using your upgrade CD only, you need to instal XP, then install vista.)

Prices from currys.co.uk:
  • Home Basic Upgrade - £99.99
  • Home Basic - £179.99
  • Home Premium Upgrade - £149.99
  • Home Premium - £219.99
  • Business Upgrade - £189.99
  • Business - £289.99
  • Ultimate Upgrade - £249.99
  • Ultimate - £369.99
I couldn't find prices for enterprise upgrade or standalone.

Do you really think Vista is worth these prices?

Not forgetting that short of getting ultimate your getting a crippled OS at the end of the day.
But it does take up 15gigs of harddrive space, which is awful considering my OS/Software harddrive is only 32GB.
Thats just f**king appauling, really
But, the GUI is absolutely BEAUTIFUL
Ubuntu+Beryl gives you the ability to have the Same style GUI.
and as long as compatability with old software remains intact, I'm pretty sure it's the best OS to date.
I can forsee it being as compatible with older stuff as XP was.
