stop resurecting threads, we all know ATI is the boss.
Not resurecting anything tbh, this is the active poll on the forums portal ;) so its meant to be posted on tbh

my 9600xt pwns all games 1280x960 full settings - Hl2 avg frame rate of 40, including citadel maps.

Ati most definately "Foh teh winz" tbh irl imo.

lol

Being resurected 4 months later is definitely not an 'active' poll.

And apparently you havn't played the following games:

EQ2
Doom 3
FC

among others.

I say Nvidia, because I have an Nvidia

but I played HL2 on my PC with my Nvidia card and it lagged like hell, with bare bones settings, and plenty of stuff like r_3dsky set to 0

I played it at my friends house who has an ATI and it played as smooth as any normal game would on my pc

then i realised ATI were one of the steam sponsors

Or maybe FX and lower cards from nvidia aint that great?

HL2 isn't even that optimised for ATI, but take a game like Doom 3 and...

ye.

HL2 unpacked from the GCF's is not optimized for ATI, it runs FINE, but running it through steam is hell

I just wanted to voice my opinion.. I picked nvidia, the reason being well since I am a advid linux user they provide a glx driver for X11 that works just lovely and ATI has quite alot of problems when it comes to there linux drivers. I can play half-life 2 and doom 3 at ease with my nvidia linux drivers and I absolutely have no complaints. But if we are going with sheer speed ATI wins but really Nvidia has the better "image quality". I don't know if you guys read www.tomshardware.com you should check it out my favorite hardware site everything from PCI-Express to the new SIS Chipsets they got it.

Peace

Steam is fine, it is a client problem.

Lies, the problem is with Steam having to unpack GCFS every 2 seconds, it is optimized for ATI, they sponsor it

download gcfscape, unpack the lot and you will see improvement

Tom's hardware is a joke to the enthusiest community and they hold no respect in my book. ATI has done alot recently to improve linux drivers.

That program was intended for mappers, and the problem is CLIENTside. Know why? Because I don't have the problem.

And Doom 3?NV lol

who cares who it was intended for? i unpacked the GCF's patched a few things here and there and it worked, it's not like i didn't buy it so it's not like i will be punished

so if it you are so sure it's client side, what card are you on?

and what about Doom 3? i'm not gonna waste money on a game i know for a fact/b] will not work on my pc

As for client side, I am on

Saphire X800 XTPE
ATI X800 Pro
ATI 9800XT
eVGA 6800GT
?? Geforce 4 MX440
?? Geforce 2 MX200

As for client side I have dealt with

eVGA 6800nu
eVGA 6800nu
?? Geforce FX 5700LE
ATI 9500 Pro

And you keep saying stuff like Oo HL2 is optimised for ATI... well erm.... HL2 is playable for everyone.... Doom 3 is HEAVILY optimised for nVIDIA more than any other game has been EVER, so stop *****in about ATI and Valve, just because Valve knows how to do things.

I always thought it was funny how ATI did better on game's licensed as "plays best on nVIDIA"

As for the 6600GT, it is a great card for the price, but don't expect to turn up the resolution or AA/AF at all.
